Not a literary great, but heartfelt none the less.
A PRAYER
Here's to those who guard the night,
Protect us from, Hate's awful fright.
A prayer to those, who in harm's way,
Shed their blood, for us each day.
A Prayer...
For those who watch our shore,
And give a sailor life once more.
Who search for those, broke and rent.
They truly are, heaven sent.
A Prayer...
For those who sail the sea,
And show our flag, with dignity.
Bringing justice to some foreign land,
Freedom following, close in hand.
A Prayer...
For those who storm the beach,
Who kill the enemy, that they reach.
Who fight and die on foreign shore.
The world knows, as The Corps.
A Prayer...
For those that streak the sky,
And put to rest, a most awful lie.
That they can hide, foes of ours,
From steel rain, from the stars.
A Prayer...
For those who trudge the mud,
Cross sand and snow, and stinking crud.
To face the foe, and mortality.
Eye to eye, for Liberty.
Yes, say a prayer for all these souls,
Our nation's heart, its burning coals.
However long our Flag may wave.
It does so 'cause, of what they gave.
And who today, hear that call,
'Freedom and Liberty, must never fall!'
A prayer of love, of hope and care,
Supporting them in what they dare.
Be they Soldier, Marine or Airman.
Sailor, Coastie, our able boatmen.
A prayer for those that stand the wall,
And keep us free, one and all.
