I've been playing from 07-11-2003 and lately have been trying to spend time on the help channel.  I'm quite patient and even answer the not so intelligent "how do I start my engine?" question but I think one of the biggest annoyances for me may not totally be the new guys fault, good chance it is but I can always hope..  It's the fact that they log on expecting to be able to fly like an ace with a mouse and keyboard.

I know there are guys in the game that somehow manage to fly this way and given that mouse and key board are the usuall way most PC games are played  now days but I think especially for a new guy it's really a poor way to be introduced to Aces High..

I have had a few guys tell me they give up on AH after trying to get off the ground using a mouse. Then I'm left trying to help keep a possible new community member by quickly elplaining that they would have a much better experiance with a stick and not to give up on the game so fast.

I don't know if it would help but on the front page it might be nice to revise the system requierments to say something more along the lines of mouse supported but for best experiance Joystick recomended... Or some such.

I know that this won't help some kids because they will just see the new shiny game and jump right in without even reading the system requierments and still others that will still think this is some form of standard first person shooter thinking that a mouse will be fine..

Well any way it's just my idea for a small improvement to things. It may not help but its worth a shot :)

And about these new "VETS"   :rofl
I know there are guys that have been playing longer than I have but for me I think real AH vets should at least remeber the good old days of AH1 :)  Though I think there are guys that have never played AH1 but have the class of most of the long time vets.
From the ashes of the old we rise to fly again. Behold The Phoenix Wing!

It isn't normal.

No excuses for acting like an ignorant d*** head when asked a civil, well intended question.  It's a form of bullying imo.

Good questions get answers...... in my book. All others I refer to the help pages otherwise your constantly explaining how to do simple tasks that are spelled out in one quick reference.

No one should berate new folks though unless they demand help or keep asking pointless questions. It's pretty much a fact that lazy folks won't add a thing to our community.

Frankly, it would be nice is 1st timers could be more readily directed to the TA and help files.

Forget 200....

Help Noobs, and I do not mean "hey noob, go to TA".

How hard is it to answer a question or two?

Sure, it a noob is a total question box, answer a few then recommend TA, but often times there are no trainers there, just people who want training.

I've been in this game for years (and Air Warrior mucho years prior) and learn something new every day.

I see it all the time..."where do I drop troops?"..."how slow to drop torpedoes?"...."what key to turn on engine?"..."do I HAVE to have a joystick?"

Sure, we can all pipe up and slap the noob around, but how hard is it to answer...."on the town"...."less than 200"...."E"....."no, but it certainly helps".

I doubt we'll all get carpel tunnel helping noobs.

We were ALL noobs once.

If it is an honest question from a new guy (I was one once), I answer then tell them that the help page on the website can answer many questions and that the training arena in also a good resource for those that don't like to get tooled on every sortie. I try to guide them a little so they onn't end up another cmustard or raider

If it is an idiototic/disrespectful request  or a mindless rant then... Squelch all the squeekers... let Skuzzy sort 'em out!:lol

Strangely enough, hardly anyone objected to this behavior.

Tell me this isn't normal.  Years back I played WB 1.x and 2.x, and new players were usually welcomed because of the new life they brought to the game (we also liked to shoot them down).:lol

I know, I hate that chit. We lost a squad-mate once, because she stood up for someone that was getting yelled at. He didn't really know what he was doing and after that this guy got on the public radio and vox and went on and on and on. We might even be talking about the same person. We all started out sometime and getting *****ed at for every mistake isn't the way to welcome new members to the AH community.

It's only normal for the ****heads. Chances are, the guy in question is a noob or kid himself.

Now, if the noob was ignoring repeated answers, or refusing to ask for a trainer, read the help files, etc, or was being disruptive or rude himself, then he should expect poor treatment in return. I have seen this many times, especially with so many children playing these days. Help and information are always available to those who are genuinely looking for it.

I am a "NOOB" to AH and trying to make due with the mouse and keyboard until the funds come around to get the controls.  My best advise for "noobs" using the mouse and keyboard and trying to learn that way, as I am, is to not even get in an arena setting unless it is the training area.  I just try to learn offline so #1 I dont get in anyone's way and #2 I am not constantly getting my a** shot off!!!

Being an A** to someone who is being an A** themselves is A-ok.  Being an A**hole for any other reason, is just flat uncivilized.  New players BASIC questions should be answered politely with a recommendation to study and readup outside of the MA.  Beyond that, they really are on their own.  In the middle of a sortie is not the time to be discussing more than basic concepts.  After 6 tours and much improvement, I have found that the offline practice, and offline study (yes I said study) is extremely important if you have any intention of picking up this game's learning curve.

Ok, so it was hydrolik!  Sounds like he has a reputation for this kind of buffonary.  I'm glad to hear he's just a bad apple.  I can understand why people squelch him, but would his behavior change if every time he acted like a jerk he was met with a chorus of reprisals on the country channel?

P.S. Many of you assumed that this happened on 200, but I said explicitly that it was on the country channel.
