Yesterday for some unknown reason I decided to up a Hurri IID and see what I could do with it.

Now I had flown the IID before.  I had tried hitting GV's with it back then with absolutely no success so I used it in an air-to-air role with moderate success and finally parked it.

Yesterday I tried the GV thing with it again.  My first sortie I smoked a Panzer then finished him off but only got an assist as some mg dweeb had been pumping .50's at him first.  I also played evasives against 3 P-38's, a Spit and an La-7 while a couple of friendlies got the kills.

I had to log off but was anxiously awaiting getting back on-line later to try this thing out some more.

Over the night I only flew 2 more soties in it getting 2 GV kills (a T-34 and a Sherman), 2 more assists and finally couldn't resist accepting the La-7 trying to HO me... hehehe.  Sadly, his debris collided with me and I had to bail after the kill.  I also left a few GV's smoking at the spawns and I'm guessing they .efluffied safely after I flew away.

This prompted me to do some reading this morning.  I found that the preferred attack was to dive on the target using the .303's to target then pump 2 40mm's at them.  I'll be trying that tonight.  I can't wait.  I had been using only the 40's leaving the .303's alone and wasting too many rounds ranging.

I love the way you can count off the 40mm's as you fire.  Smoking vehicles and kills are very rewarding and it can still turn like you'de expect a Hurri to do.  I'm not sure it will replace the F6F as my attack plane of choice but the Hurri IID will definately get more attention.  This is, of course, hurting my attack score but I guess I just don't care... it's too much fun!

What's your latest love?

BTW, how many kills has anyone landed in the IID without rearming?

Fly the Hurri 1.. You can't kill GV's but it's soo much fun to fly.

For current new planes, I decided it's time I learn some of the German planes, so I've been flying the 109 A-8.

After posting this I just couldn't wait to try the IID out again.  I upped and got 3 GV's on my first (and only) sortie in it.  I guess I scared 'em off as they quit spawning :)

I'm still only using the 40's but I've got it down to about 4-6 rounds for a kill now.

Hints for GV busting in the Hurri IID:

Set convergence for 400. Hold down the trigger for just two shots just before range ID changes from 600 to 400 and pull out. Shoot with cannon only. Don't bother with the machine guns at all - their hit sprites just prevent you from seeing if the cannon shells hit.

Come in from the GV's rear at a good angle - maybe 45 degrees or so. Aim for just behind the turret, on the tank's horizontal surface.

Pull out after your two shots. Don't bother trying to make any more

Panzers usually die after one pass. Other tanks take more.

Best GV sortee was something like 5 panzers and an M3 for kicks. A couple were miraculous 1-shot kills. It happens.

Why use the 9T when you can use the Hurri or Il-2?

I prefer the Hurri I or IIC myself.
