Mathias Rust landing in Red Square near Kremlin in "87 comes in my mind.  This guy is still my hero, i was in colege at that time in Romania, and our communists dictator didn;t talk about it in news, we got  the news from Voice of America, Free Europe radio , wich were also ilegal to listen and jamed that time, but was exciting news

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

From a country itching to get back into an arms race with the US, I think shooting down a couple planes is the last thing we need to do.

ps- I actually AM for a military draft.....but not as it was in the past.

I'm for a mandatory "youth corp" similar to Roosevelt's plan...with all boys and girls serving their country for two years right out of high school...non militarily...working in parks, hospitals, guarding borders, building low income homes, roads and highways, national infrastructure, airports, community service, police support, etc....etc....

if a military draft is needed...all these kids will have already gone through boot camp....and all boys who can physically serve, are then placed in the draft lottery.

if they serve in the youth core or the military for 4 years.......college is free.

personally........I'm stunned there was no draft after 911........but we're not the strong willed country we were back in 1941, are we?

It wasn't as spectacular as Su-24s passing over USS Kittyhawk in a Sea of Japan back in 2000. At that time US CV group totally failed to intercept Russian planes and the crew literally panicked.

October, 17th and November, 9th, 2000.

Two Su-24MR recon planes, covered by Su-27 fighters. Pilots were awarded with Hero of Russia medals. They flew over an unprepared flight-deck, American crew started to cut fuel lines thinking they are under real attack.

And that has... precisely... WHAT to do with Russian bombers doing the same thing they've been doing for the last 6 decades?

You were a Giuliani supporter, weren't you?

And I'm 100% against any draft of any sort. At any age. I don't want my children being programmed to believe in anything. They'll find it on their own like I did.

Hey, I'm not insulting you at all, so please don't reply with an insult. Thank you.

You were stunned that there was no draft after 911 for the same reason that you think Roosevelt was a good president.

I think FDR was a good prez (better than the recent ones anyhoo), and I wasn't surprised there was no draft, nor do I think there ever will be again. In too many peoples minds, draft is equated with "Vietnam" and "endless wars". The backlash for its implimentation would be horrible, its bad enough when its just mentioned.

FDR was the tool with which the USA was ultimately ruined.  The US had been placed on the road to it by previous presidents, FDR just gave it rocket boosters and guided it in.
