Don't see why it should be perked.

The Osti was produced in really low numbers too.

And I think the Osti was actually an upgrade from the WW.

Why perk the old one when the new and improved model isn't?

Why perk it? Because it'll be about 8x easier to get kills at any given range (in the air or on the ground) than the 37mm variant, it fires probably a dozen rounds a second where the 37mm does about 1 per seccond (maybe 2 for every 3 seconds?). It will be able to lead targets far more easily than the 37mm because of this volume of fire, and any hit could still do critical damage to the average fighter plane in this game.

About equal power (any hit is gonna hurt, bad!)
Multiple guns
Much faster rate of fire
Solid wall of lead, any one of which gets the job done

vs single shots that targets fly THROUGH rather than IN to, as on the 37mm.

It'll be like flying a 109k4 (osty) then switching to a C-Hog (Wirble)

THAT's the general thinking on why it might be perked.

In AH2 the tactical situation is a much different one from real world. Planes flying much lower here and closer to the flack. While the Ostwind has a bigger hitting power at very long range, this advantage is more than compensated by the Wirbelwind's much higher rate of fire. 4x 20mm cannons (the same armament A Tempest, Typhoon or F4U-C has!) closely grouped on a stable mount should tear anything apart at ranges up to 1k. and few Ostwind gunners can get hits at ranges much longer than that, especially on crossing targets

But that makes too much sense!!

Perk the Wirblewind? Nah. Airwarrior had a flakpanzer with 4 20mm cannons. It wasn't that great. It had an effective range of around 1k or so. It also didn't deter vulchers. People just brought bombs to kill the flakpanzies and then vulched anyways.

I suspect it will be much the same here. ;)

Only partly facts... A lot of assumptions too. We will have to wait until it's released to see actual impact on gameplay. ;)

With all due respect, this game is nothing like AW.

The only similarity is that they have airplanes and guns set in a WW2 theme.

In some ways AH is very similar to AW, other ways not so much. Somehow I doubt that there will be much difference in how a 4/20mm flak wagon effects either game.

Kind of like how HOs are the same in both games?

Or gun ballistics?

There are things that are very similar Krusty. Hording for one. The stall limiter is very similar to flying in the old RR arenas. I could go on but you get the picture.

I'm not going to argue with you Krusty, I certainly don't want to get you started on another one of your rampages. ;)

I don't see why the FPs would have to stop and reload. The field guns do not have to load individual clips, and tanks instantly switch between ammo types. Why would we have to impose a "realistic" limitation to facilitate completely unrealistic vulching?
