You know what I don't like about them? They seem like they're whispering everything... like they don't mean what they're singing. There's no gusto. Some of their songs are awesome... if someone else were singing them...

Not the kind of whisper like a secret... the kind of whisper like you're not meaning something.

I will say that a lot of the songs that Art was the lead vocal on did sound "quiet"...but good none the less :)

How come I can't say that right?

Yes, bridge over troubled water & sounds of silence ~ both I can imagine sung with gusto... not "loud..." just with passion I guess is what I'm trying to say.

They sound like they don't mean it.

There's a lot of melancholy in their songs.  This shouldn't be misconstrued as a lack of earnestness.  This is a a facet of music making that is lost on a lot of today's artists.  Toby Kieth singing "The Sound of Silence" would be a slow hilarious train-wreck.

It's not a lack of earnestness... It's a lack of emotion at all. Like they're just checking a block. If you listen to their music in the background ~ that music has more emotion than their singing.

"The Sound of Silence would be horrible sung with "gusto".  It is a dark melancholy song sung from a shadow.

"Bridge Over Troubled Water" is a very dynamic song.  It starts out quiet but by the end Art Garfunkel is wailing.  It can still bring a tear to my eye.

I'm gonna stop listening to the youtube live shots & go get the CD out. Maybe they just have emotionless stage performance.

*edit* meloncholy shouldn't translate to emotionless. It can be even more powerful than others. Just not with these two.
