I just cant get into the small scale replicas.

What is a Spitfire without a Merlin?

What is a 109 without a DB605?

What is a 190 without a BMW801?

A plane that mere mortals can afford to buy.  :)

Something even cheaper, and a whopping 80hp...

Something cheap and a tad faster perhaps?

It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

One can always get one of these (you will have to have some build it for you):

True enough... but sticking a 100HP engine into a scale replica of a Spitfire is like putting a Tubi muffler and a Ferrari body kit on a Pontiac Fiero, in my mind.

Let it be known, however, that I wouldn't be able to afford a replica or a proper Supermarine dweebfire... so don't think I'm just playing rich, internet tough guy.  ;)

And that Hurricane from Italy? Looked very interesting, wow!
And Milo's pics....any more info?

Cute, ain't it? :) It's an ultralight, seats in tandem, the second one is hidden in the fuselage. Yeah, they're not like the real thing, but they can let you dream to be in the real thing, just like our cartoon planes, with the added bonus of being actually flying! ;)

Flying a smaller-scale replica of a warbird is rediculous.  They look different, they handle different.  Just a dumb concept.

check these out. one uses a V-12, the other uses a BB chevy.

Except for the Thunder Mustang.  Everything's to scale, and it even has a liquid cooled engine with the radiator in the right place.

The FW190 without a BMW 801 is a D variant - or a Ta152.

 ;)

I love the old biplanes - managed a few hours in a Tiger Moth all too many years ago - and I've seen the SE5a minis a few times at airshows, where their pilots told me they're wonderful fun to fly. Dunno about the Camel though, if its outlook from the cockpit's as restricted as in the original.

I agree to some extent, semi-scale aircraft just do it for me.

The cost of the war-spec engines is prohibitive to say the least but at least companies like FlugWerks (sp?) in Germany are building replicas in full scale with affordable engines... Terribly under-powered, I'm sure, but at least they look the real deal for display purposes.

It's not like one needs to be dogfighting with Mustangs these days.
