"Godzilla on Prozac" as he puts it..

in stock form... as LA times writer puts it
Despite the GT-R's official nickname, "Godzilla," it's more like 2 tons of fluffy kitten.

just like the previous skylines...it begs to be modded

Here's the irony of this entire vette vs asian car thing...

A general rule for a car to be considered a supercar is 100hp per liter.

An RX-7 with a 1.3L making 255hp = supercar
Brand new Z06 with its 6L making 400hp = not a supercar.

That general rule is incorrect. The term "supercar" dates back to the 1920's Britain and the general meaning of the term is: "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match," "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own."

The fastest car?

The Veyron, Koenigsegg and SSC are all faster than F1 cars.

mt.. No, I don't know how many japs find the term offensive.   I grew up in LA in a neighborhood that was mostly ex-internment camp japs and blue collar workers in the 50's.   I don't recall it being offensive then.

Now the area (Hawthorne) is mostly all negros.

As for the jap cars and no one buying them because they are so smurfy..  I thought we were talking about the hot rods.. the sports cars with HP...  the supercars...   grocery getters and commuters don't count.. those are for people who don't like cars.

lazs

Better answer might have been "why should I care?"

Laz you obviously grew up in a neighborhood that practiced that little known anymore phenominon known as common sense.
They probably understood that here, and probably most places outside their country It is used as an abbriviation of the word "Japaneese"

Funny how for years anbd years nobody complained.
That is untill they found an excuse to be "offended".
Which is a rather popular fad right now.

Nobody it seems is in the "in crowd" unless they can whine and claim to be offended by something. LOL

Being "offended" is to now what leisure suits were to the 70's

The Veyron, Koenigsegg and SSC are all faster than F1 cars.
On an open stretch of road, or on the same tracks F1 run on?  Because world championship racetracks rarely have straights long enough to justify biasing setup for very high speed at the expense of speed in the curves.
Hello ant
running very fast

In a straight line, over a very, very long distance, yes... but there's these darn things called corners.

All irrelevant to the definition of "fastest car". Top speed is the only relevant statistic. A Willis Jeep is faster than all these cars around a mud track, but that is also irrelevant.

And btw. F1 cars are hardly street legal, which is a qualifier set in the title of this thread.

Then the Caparo T One is still a good 5-10 seconds faster around the Top Gear track, and it's street legal.

Since the Veyron and SSC haven't been tested around the Top Gear track that is purely speculation on your part.

No turbos,no superchargers, "small" 6.0l BMW v12.My favorite car:)

Yeah I love the Mclaren F1 too, but it is no match for the Veyron (or the other 250 mph cars). You can give the F1 a head start to 100 mph and the Veyron will still beat it to 200 mph. The performance gap is that insane.

The Veyrons top speed is really not that impressive considering....

A. Its 16 Cylinder engine doesnt even make 62.5 HP per cylinder.
B. It wont maintain that speed for more than 10 minutes.
C. It has 16 radiators and is a plumbing nightmare.

To me its more of a street legal production land speed car than some of the older supercars. Sure its a very technological piece and well built but all of that to do 256 mph?

I have a Briggs and Stratton that makes 75 HP per cylinder and its air cooled!

Same guys that did that are doing the Caparo T One. Superior track performance with only 500ish hp. It's pretty insane, and probably the most dangerous supercar being built. No other car will really hang in there on a track with high speed corners though. It's basically a street-legal grand prix car.

Yeah Strip, but it won't do 250 mph. I don't think you fully appreciate the difficulties involved in getting a car to go that fast. The Veyron is actually as fast as a Hurricane Mk. I on MIL power, and the Veyron has to stay on the ground.
