My "safe" neighborhood
« on: April 24, 2008, 08:39:37 AM »
I send my son out to get into the car this morning (intending to be a few steps behind him), and hear gun shots from right outside our home. He runs back in & locks the door (smart kid).

I go outside & see the cop who lives across the street peel off in his car (I didn't know he was a cop until this morning when he turned the lights inside of his car on.  I guess he's a new neighbor, since I don't recall ever having seen him before today, either).

Then later in the morning another son calls me to bring him something at his school.  As I'm walking out of his school, I hear screaming and a ton of gun shots from the surrounding neighborhood.

Further down my street, there's another cop.  He was shot outside of his home a few months back. When I googled it this morning, that news article that details that particular shooting has disappeared ~ and in it's place is a news article which appears to have replaced it, omitting entirely that he's a cop... and even changes the line of events.

And even now as I'm typing this I hear more sirens.  When we moved into this neighborhood just a few short years ago, this was considered to be one of the "safer" parts of town.  I am soooo ready to leave our neighborhood.

Best wishes to you! It's calm in the good old state of NC.

I live in a small city in Stanly County, I don't think I've ever worried about gunshots here...and when I do hear them, they are around hunting session.

Take care, and keep your family safe.  :salute

WOW that is crazy. We just moved into our neighborhood in Nov. of 07 and it is the nice part of town except for the dumpy apartments about 1/2 a mile up the road. We live by the highschool and by a elementary school. The thing that makes me mad living here and makes me want to move is that the speed limit on our road is 25. Most of the time you will hear a car go flying past at about 45 or 60. There are usually school kids walking up our street and the people driving dont care. The only good thing is that b/c of those dumpy apartments the cops are constantly driving up and down our street which makes me feel safe untill they leave. Then the cars are right back doing it again. I am just waiting for the time when I can get a license plate and call the cops.

Get a basket ball, or socker ball and keep it on the front porch. When you hear one of those idiots screaming up the road, toss the ball out there in front of them. Make sure to hit the car. When they stop ask them how they would feel if they had hit your kid or someone elses kid if they had been chasing that ball, and they had been speeding and couldn't stop in time.

Sometimes the shock value can actually work.

That is an outstanding way to get into an unnecessary confrontation.

if only you could see the people that live in the dumpy apartments up the road i dont think you would mind. It just makes me mad that the cops drive up and down the street and these people slow down untill the cops leave and they are right back to doing it...
