Raise the Titanic by Clive Cussler.  Awesome story, movie really, really stunk.  Cussler can't get a break either.  His other book, Sahara was also a flop when it went to the silver screen.
Yep. Great read. Loved the SEALS. The flick BLEW!

I didn’t know they made a movie out of it...  Sahara was entertaining but was too witty and light hearted, not a good adaptation of the book.  I know this is not from book to screen but what do ya’ll think about Reeves remaking The Day The Earth Stood Still?

Any movie based on a Stephen King book.  If you did not read the books, you might think the movie to be ok, but in reality, all of the movies based on his work has been horribly done when compared to the book.

"The Shining" is a riveting book.  I read it in one sitting.  The first movie with Jack Nicholson was absolutely ludicrous.  The second one actually had more elements from the book than the first one, but was still badly done.

On the other hand, when a book is mostly comprised of what the character is thinking and not what he/she is doing, I think it is difficult to convey in a movie.  Takes a really good director to make the transition from 'thought' to 'imagery'.

See Rule #7

That was my same reaction… and then I read this…..
Quote
The Day The Earth Stood Still is a 2008 remake of the 1951 science fiction movie of the same title. The plot was updated from a cold war man against man theme to a New Age concern of man against nature. Originally, the release date was scheduled on May 9, however, it was moved to December 12, 2008 in the United States and theaters worldwide.

Now I hate it EVEN MORE. Sum Of All Fears all over again. What's next, Tora Tora Tora with Halliburton instead of the Japanese? These preachy clowns need Prius enemas.

The only movie I thought was better than the original book was "The Natural". The book was well written and all, but what a downer.

I'm glad they quit trying to make Clancy movies into novels.

Two interesting things about the movie though is how many of the actors in it went on to decent careers and the movie inspired the Squid to read the book.

Never saw it, but just pulled up the cast... quite a line-up.

I am Legend

It seems to me that I Am Legend was more of a remake of The Omega Man than an adaptation of the short story.

The book is so thin, I can see why screen adaptations take creative license with it. I thought the book was crap.

I thought Misery actually was better on film than the book. But yeah, generally true.

Cold Mountain - That movie blew chunks.  Book was great.  Well half of it was, I couldn't stay interested in the story about the woman on the homefront.
