Like I said in a previous post, doesnt Georgia have the most # of Foriegn troops besides the Brits? I was told they do, so I dont think Bush would just ditch them, nor would he to Israel.

They had 2000 trops in Iraq wich the US has helped get back to Georgia since the conlfict began.

Ah, but still, I doubt that Bush will just let them get taken over by the Russians. Especailly if they sent as many troops into Iraq as they did for such a small country.

Indeed it is and Rice is on her way if not already there. Let's just hope Russia is done as they have said.

Boroda... what in hell has happened in Russia? Is Putin attempting to light eastern europe with the flames of burning villages? Whats going on with your citizens? They back this play?

Holy crap... you guys got either a rouge leader in moscow or a rouge general down there. Hope like hell they knock it off soon; cause this action will force a military confrontation in europe that'll make WWII look like it was a warm-up show. The mood here is one of shock and disgust... this ain't a border skimish now; it's war.

All of the reports' coming out of Georgia look conflicting, but that's because they are compared side-by-side with conflicting claims' from the other side. I just saw this on the Yahoo front pages':http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080813/ap_on_re_eu/georgia_russia_103;_ylt=AsE827ymc7DdwMNM8_wnKO9bbBAF

Now, if this report is correct, then the Russians' are not honoring the ceasefire, which calls' for them not only to leave Georgia, but South Ossetia, and Abkhazia as well. So far, they have not complied.

It looks' like the Russians' are stalling with diplomacy, to try to keep the west out of it while they steal some land.

They are only making things' worse for themselves.

reports of irregulars coming in behind russian troops and looting.  Not only looting but forcing Georgians out, looting and burning the homes. 

Sounds familiar.

I know Fox News isn't so far removed from American propaganda, but, I did watch a video report from one of their reporters driving in a vehicle out of Gori, passing at least a dozen or so BMP-21's with their associated dismounts, heading into the city.  I'm not quite as current on my Russian TO as I used to be, but it looked like a mechanized company strength unit, and they were oscar mike into the city.

The Russian "demilitarization" of the areas south of S.O. is the worrisome part.  That's a pretty open-ended mission by any definition.  I'm not partial to stirring up a hornets nest, but I think we need to draw a hard line here.  Too much at stake to allow the Russians to run wherever they want without due regard to their former territories sovereignty.  Shame we allowed them the freedom of action back in the 90's to set up these puppet territories in those two provinces to begin with.  But, we set some fairly duplicative precedent with Kosovo, so this is probably their version of "tit-for-tat".
