Nope... like most of the folks that come from a different culture; 'you missed it'.
Ronald Reagan was the guy we give credit to for finally winning the cold war and forcing what we call the collapse of the 'evil empire'. The feeling ran so deep that a most unusual honor was bestowed upon him... while he was still alive, we named America's most formidable aircraft carrier, then building, after him and his wife commissioned her.
Mr Putin is alleged to have considered the loss of the soviet empire as the greatest mistake of the 20th century.
I was having a laugh over Putin having to deal with the irony of having Reagan, just one more time, crush a Russian attempt at Empire. Which is pretty much what we built her and her 10 sisters for to begin with.
Call it a private joke. You may return to celebrating the heroic defeat of Georgia by the Glorious Soldat of the New and Improved, Kinder, Gentler, Russian Empire.
Reagan, however, would have answered this whole thing quite a bit differently-As a matter of fact, American troops would probably have been in there second or third day of combat already, Or the CVBG's would have arrived and taken up station off of Poti.
And, with this handling of the Georgian crisis, It does do one thing to Bush. It discredits him. Not just to the world, but to his own people, here at home. If he would have played the ball harder here, he would have been able to shrug off some of the critisism of how Iraq's been handled. Instead, when faced with a clear-cut provocation, involving a direct attack/invasion of an Allied nation, He just stood aside. Now, how do the rest of the nation's of the world feel? Now, how do you get support for your "war on terror"?
It looks' like given time for one more mask up before his terms' up, he'll manage it...

I just can't possibly put any more stock in cockamamie "Well, look at what a democrat woulda done..." arguments. This is potentially the worst diplomatic failure in U.S. history. This is a republican president that hung an allied nation out to dry.
I'll go so far as to say that I don't know what Obama's stance would have been. But unfortunately, we've seen the Neo-con one.
Shit, I'm gonna cast TWO votes for Ron Paul, If I legally can...
