I think that's why we haven't had even stronger action from Russia. They know that they are a token gesture - but NATO encroachment is something they will avoid at (nearly) all costs.

I could agree with that except for one minor detail.....there isn't enough ABM's to counter a Russian nuclear assault. (Or counter strike) Only 10 of them are being put in Poland, Russia can easily overwhelm that system.

This is where Israeli fighter jets (something in the back of my mind is telling me they were F16s) bombed some kind of Iranian nuclear reactor being developed or something in the 70's or 80's, and some civilians were killed, making the general Iranian public (naturally, and understandably) very angry, correct?

Im referring to now....The Iranians are working on a nuclear plant....have made some very strong statments to say the least about Israel....

Do you advocate bombing the plants due to the statements made by Achmadumbajob...or would you simply leave well enough alone and take your chances?

Israel seems to just love bombing nuclear plants, they've also bombed ones in Iraq and more recently one in Syria.

You are sorta right....and sorta wrong....heh

Yes, it was the Israeli's that bombed a nuclear facility with F-16's, but it was an Iraqi facility and it was hit on a Sunday to minimize the chances of civilians being hit. It was 1986 iirc that the Israeli's hit the Osirak (sp) reactor.

I never liked the use of the military as the world police force, as it not only makes the US look bad in most cases, but it also kills American citizens for.... well, not the wellfare of the United States, which IMO is the role it should be used for.
Iran, you could say, is different because if they develop nuclear weapons they could kill thousands, millions, even tens of millions of Americans. Although, this is only part of the puzzle, since you also need to have a delivery system, unless Iran is going to kill US civilians in Iran. So... they need to build a missile capable of carrying a non-microsized nuclear warhead to the United States. Considering Iran does not have a space program or some other kind of cover to build systems that would be capable of striking the US, I don't see a nuclear Iran, even an Iran with nuclear weapons, as a threat to the United States as much as it would be to Israel or Europe.... which means, IMO, it's their decision to make.

In actuality I believe that threatening a nuclear strike is going way to far, however I was exaggerating/fabricating thoughts and opinions in order to play the devils advocate.
However, looking at the situation from Russia's point of view, there's a possibility that the Americans aren't just putting in defensive missiles (just like there's a possibility that Iran isn't developing nuclear capabilities for peaceful reasons). I can certainly see condemning the decisions and, maybe even threatening military action. But certainly not threatening with a nuclear strike.

They do? I find that hard to believe...BUT....I don't have alot to do with younger kids these days. Most of what I see on the streets or around when out with the wife are very undisciplined and smart a** very rude kids. Basically just daring any one to say something so they can throw thier rudenss at them. Generally I find younger kids , teens mainly to be a real pain in the *** that I don't like much.

I should have said, 'if they have an opinion at all about foreign policy'. Of course, if you ask most my age about the conflict in Georgia, they will be asking why there are Russian troops in the US, and it will take a long time to explain where Georgia is.

The Russians should be able to monitor/verify that in the same manner that we monitored/verified the missiles being deployed in Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis....via satellite.

Even trying to see this from a Russian perspective, I find it very hard to see why they are so upset about these missiles. There is only 10 of them. On top of that, the Russians have ICBMs that supposedly can evade incoming ABMs anyways.
