Given that in the 1700's people took their individual sect's principles and beliefs much more seriously than Americans do now, I think the documents had to be Deist. They couldn't have passed had they been perceived as favoring or highlighting one sect over another.

I think we both agree that religion and the concept of a God were integral to this Republic from the start, thus we really have nothing to disagree about.

Unlike the chowderheads that don't understand the First Amendment and Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Babptists.   :)

I said this in another thread about Governor Palin. It matters not who is running for VP the top job is the only one most people are going to the poles for. The only group that I see may change there minds about voting for the Republicans on this issue may be the ultra religious. I don't think the numbers who would be switched off on this topic would make a difference though.

So having a 4 month old with down syndrome, and now a pregnant daughter. Might she be a little busy for the VP role?

It's not the point that she thinks "abstinence is the best policy" or not. I don't care what she thinks, hell I don't mind if that gets taught in school, it's a good idea to teach kids that. The ISSUE is the fact she think ONLY abstinence policy should be taught in school. So with that said it makes the fact that even her own daughter couldn't be abstinent a very REAL issue and shows just how wrong the women is on the subject.

Do you know what abstinence means?

Now that's an important point I hadn't thought about. :aok

It really doesn't matter what policy regarding birth control the VP (or President for that matter) thinks is best to teach in school. Education curriculum is developed and run at the state level, not the federal. This is really a non issue and exemplifies making a mountain out of a molehill.

The ISSUE is the fact she think ONLY abstinence policy should be taught in school. So with that said it makes the fact that even her own daughter couldn't be abstinent a very REAL issue and shows just how wrong the women is on the subject.

Here, I'll type slowly for you.

The fact she thinks ONLY abstinence policy should be taught in school coupled with the fact that Bristol is pregnant out of wedlock DOES NOT make Sarah a hypocrite.

There is nothing one person can do that can make another person a hypocrite. See the definition of hypocrite.

There, that should handle the hypocrite part.

Now, the fact that even her own daughter couldn't be abstinent DOES NOT show just how wrong the women is on the subject.

What it shows is that Bristol chose to ignore the abstinence approach that her mother favors. That is all it shows. Nothing more, nothing less. When you finally have children that have gone through puberty, you will realize this.

The obvious counter to your argument would be if I gave an example of a teenager that got knocked up after going through an extensive sex education course in school which was reinforced by her parents, both of whom were strong believers in sex education.

Now we both know that there are unwed mothers that went through parentally supported sex education. Does that mean the parents were totally wrong supporting sex education?

Duh... obviously not. It means the teenager ignored her parent's & school's instructions and got knocked up.

Again, after you have teenagers you will probably understand this implicitly.

Tell me, when you reached puberty, did you have sex ed? What was your parent's position on premarital sex? Did you go ahead and get laid anyway? Did you ever have unprotected premarital sex?

I bet we ALL know the answer to that one because just about everyone of us did the same thing.

This is a non-issue for that very reason.

If you knew the industry I worked in you would feel very dumb asking that question...

As for Palin.. this is her views on sex ed and abstinence being taught in schools..

In 2006 candidate Palin said she would fund abstinence-only education programs in schools. "The explicit sex-ed programs," she added, "will not find my support." The stance, which reflected the priorities of the GOP, nevertheless led to an incredulous editorial in the Juneau Empire.

So if you guys can't admit is freaking ironic as hell that even her own daughter can't practice what the mom preaches. Well then you guys have have your head buried 5ft in the sand.

Do you have teen aged kids? If so, do you think you can keep track of every single thing they do each and every day? You do realize that they are their own person, capable of making their own decisions don't you? Kids are not computers you program to do things one way only. Kids are often rebellious and deliberately choose to violate the tenets their parents try to raise them by. If you do not now have teen aged kids you will be in for a rude awakening if you do have them.
