Most popular O'Club fallacy
« on: September 14, 2008, 11:30:12 AM »
What's the most popular informal fallacy at the O'Club?  I can't decide.  The ones I see the most are the ad hominem and the straw-man, with plenty of red herrings thrown in for good measure.  It's been 10 years since I took critical thinking in college, but it still drives me nuts that these fallacies are used routinely here and no one seems to give a damn about it. :P

anax..   you better explain a little simpler..  I don't think skyrock understood.

you could probly have skipped the snob appeal and said that we generalize here a lot.   In general.. there is nothing wrong with generalizing..  so long as you realize that it is only... in general.

As you attack the O’club for being rampant in racial attacks, I would testify that you are obviously a bigot and therefore the premise of your original post cannot possibly be true. Your position that illogical arguments are an epidemic the O’club is just not so.  We have had many discussions where logic and reason are used eloquently.

So logic is solely owned by college students?  You cannot be logical unless some college
professor taught it to you?

Many things astonishingly pass for logic here. Our public schools have failed miserably. Rather than spend our taxes on vouchers so that parents who can't otherwise afford to send their kids to a private school with a proven track record of success may do so, we demand more money for the incompetently led public schools. Believe it or not, there are actually people who post on this forum that support that position. Logic isn't what it used to be.

We never had any logical fallacies until you posted in this thread, Sandman.  I think you are the cause of all this.
