Has anyone tried this WWI sim?

The graphics look cool, but without a demo I'm a bit leery of paying for it if its really arcade style FM and damage, or if its not got good playability. But I loves me my WWI planes, so if its any good, I I might get it for my wood-and-canvas fix.

Try the Over Flanders Fields mod for MS CFS 3. I love it.

From waht I'm reading, I think its a mission-based offline bax-type game.

I'm DLing it now, I'll give a report a bit later after I've tried it out.

I couldn't wait for a review from the community, had to try it out. I figure even if it stinks, its a lot less than many other boxed games I've bought and hated.

I have First Eagles...

It isn't terrible, but it won't take you away from AHII for long. Just not enough variety in missions, or variables from an AI opponent.

Also, the viewing system is bizarre. There are no icons, the snap views are inadequate. (Apparently they believe pilots couldn't swivel their head and torso to look around more than 90 degrees to either side.)  To track the foe you must use keys or buttons to lock your "visual targeting" onto them and toggle padlock. Really wierd.
"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

Doesn't work. Crashes back to desktop as soon as I click "fly". And I have all the requirements too.  :cry

I got it to work, had to update my direct X (the one that comes with it is out of date) and fiddle with the graphic settings.

Only thing I really dont like is the icons- you get icons for everything, air and ground, that is on the map- I had one for an AAA gun at 17 miles away! The FM is arcadish, but fun, and the graphics are great. Definitely gonna be able to kill some time with this one.

I get to fly an Albatros...  :devil

I was just searching for a WW1 flight sim , Treize and this looks good , but I'd like an online game if possible . If anybody knows of one could you please post it up . Sometimes after lots of AH2 a break for a bit would be cool .

Theres a multiplayer tab in the menu, but I haven't clicked it yet. Theres also a tab in the career mode to "track online campaign stats", haven't tried that one either.

It "comes" with an out of date DirectX?  You mean it clobbers your up to date install of DirectX with an out of date one??

Several of the guys in Over Flanders Fields host multiple player games, at least on a somewhat regular basis, especially on nights and weekends, there were two last night. I have not tried one, yet, I'm still working on my set up. You can pick up any copy of MS CFS 3 cheap, $10 or less, shipping and all. The guys on the forum will send you a DVD copy of Over Flanders Fields Phase 2 for free, there's a sticky post on the BBS for requests. The biggest drawback is the marked difference between MS CFS 3 and AH.

I have the Pfalz, theres an addon for just about every aircraft that flew in the war. One night of looking online for addons and I've more than tripled my flyable aircraft- including virtually the entire Nieuport line, from the 16 to the 28.  :aok

Its got a moddable engine, like CFS, so if you can make it and write up an FM for it, you can add it. LOTS of choices.
