Missions in the LW arenas
« on: January 22, 2009, 11:22:14 AM »
Last night with the help of coronado in rooklandia, I attempted to put a mission together that would have brought a significant number of historically competative aircraft to merge at a coalt situation. The situation was bf109g2s and bf109f4s vs spit5s and spit8s at 10K alt, hopefully with 20 to 30 folks per side and far from too many intruders, intended to be nothing more than an era specific slugfest to the last man. we gave approx 15 minutes of time for joining, Coronado informed me that he was competing against several rook missions. In the end it did not go off for this reason.  :(. The bish produced 15 109s for said mission.  :aok Now I still think this would be a real HOOT and nice change now and again for the LW crowd. If anyone has any advice to assist in getting this going once in awhile, it would be appreciated. A few folks said I should try this in the DA, but I don't think enough folks would leave the LW just for this mission, but I believe it would be a very nice break from the monotony of the LW once in awhile.
Thanks for any help with this!

Advertise regularly. Keep at it. Don't give up after a few tries. Eventually word gets around.

If you would have gave the Rooks only two options,,,,,

1. Get in the mission
2. Take a Bath

You would have had plenty of Rooks in the Mission.   :devil

How about a readily identifiable mission title that all would recognise ?

If I had been logged I would have joined in for sure.  I'd have jumped countries to even the numbers if need be.

These kinds of things would be just awesome to see.

I ran a stuka mission a few weeks ago.  Any time I run a mission I usually use early war aircraft with some kind of theme to the mission to add some historical flavor to it, so this time it was Stukas with 109G-2's flying cover.  What was hillarious is that half the people that joined didn't even bother to look at what planes were in the mission.  Others were like, "put 110's and typhoons in and I'll join."  I told them no, I wasn't going to run some uber-lw cannon armed NOE lemming mishun.

The guys that didn't really pay attention howled when the mishun spawned.  They were like "wtf is this pos plane?" and they exited.  I guess flying a Stuka was too much for them, they needed their crutch.  Ended up having about 7 Stukas though, but at one point there were 13 signed up.  Now that would have been cool, and that was the point.  Kudos to those that stuck around and flew.  Our goon was some other squeaker who never responded to any coms, flew right to the field and dropped his troops on the runway.  lol.

Point being it takes either a lot of old timers to be on to pulll it off, or you have to herd the cats (squeakers and LW ride potatos) into the not so uber historical stuff.  Then you really have to cajole them to get them to fly above 500 feet and tell them you aren't hitting a base, you're trying to recreate a historical air to air matchup.  That will get a chorus of wtf's and I'm outta here's.

Do it with the vets on.  Karaya's a good cat herder for the Rooks to get people into the fun kind of missions.

My thoughts are to join the fight in an out of the way grid so as to keep HORDE LEECHES from following! This may take a transition flight of 1 - 2 sectors. Also if country folks see a glommer in a different ride, hopefully "intense ridicule and bashing" will change their mind  :aok Anyway I expect a few interlopers now and then especialy in the beginning, but if it turns out to be do-able and fun I believe these instances will fade away

Well this is why coordinating with someone on another country is critical, Each country having their own mission to reach the intended goal, and staying within the guidelines of said mission!   VOLUNTEERING ?  :D Oh I would love some historic escort stuff also, but lets get thru some of the teething 1st before we complicate it up!

I normally don't pay attention to mission postings because I am not really into the taking bases especially with the overwhelming numbers method. However it sounds as though this was not what you were going with here and advertised properly I would have joined if I had been on either of those teams.

To get to my point:

When you set up these missions, be honest let them know this is not an horde the base mission but a create a fight mission. Let your countrymen know that the otherside is putting together a similar mission with different plane set. The other piece of advise I must add has already been mentioned, don't give up after only a couple of these sometimes it takes quite a few attempts for the best things to become popular.

If you want to try this out on the knight side sometime let me know I would be willing to post up something like this. Just keep in mind that my in game has changed (now ace pilot (quite the conversation starter  :D))

Haxxor has returned!!!!

Understood that is why I was coordinating with coronado, I hope he was relaying my intentions properly! I even told him to confirm I would be there so maybe an attitude of " let's all go gangrape shreck" might have been a mottivator  :rofl :rofl

You see that right there is why a majority of people won't join.  A mission just to go fight against other planes, not in la7's and typhoons?  You mean no base take?  Waste of resources!!!

That's what you get.
