They are all standing by him saying the same thing some of you did here. Twenty years from now they will go soft on coke and crack too.

Two Russian Sumo wrestlers and one from Japan were tested and found to be using marijuana. That is one sport I never expected to see have a problem with drugs:

Temporary suspension from swimming and one sponsor (Kellog) not renewing his contract...  It's not much more than a slap on the wrist but I think he may see longer-term negative effects as well, in terms of people who pass up business or personal dealings with him on the basis of past unreliability.  It's not that pot is all that bad, it's that a company just isn't going to pay a dopehead to represent them.  One more incident that tarnishes his image and he just may be done.  He's already on strike 2...

Kelloggs just pulled the plug on him.

And for that. Kelloggs just lost my business.

I dont particularly like Phelps. But so long as they arent hurting anyone else. What someone does on their own time is their business.
And for Pot?? Gimme a break. Its time to end this silliness already.
Personally I think the one who put out that picture for publication is the one who needs to be crucified.

On the other hand. I dont think anyone should be paid tons of money because they know how to swim really fast.

Is it wrong to look at the long term "slipage" in society which this is part of and not shake your head.  I know the alcohol / pot arguments and to me the dui was as bad as the bong issue.  I just think somewhere we have to take a stand.  I do believe without some repercussions another whole generation of kids just popped up and said if he can do it and still win so can I.  While it may work for some the majority just wandered off into lala land.

Coulda been taken from a phone cam in which case he might have never known the picture was taken to begin with.

OK and using the "kids" logic. Then why is this a bigger deal then athletes on Steroids?

Think A Rod is going to loose many endorsement deals?

And please tell me you dont honestly believe that kids are going to start smoking dope simply because they saw Phelps do it? LMAO

It shouldn't be bigger than ARod, Baseball has a Major League problem with steroids, as I understand it both Major League BB and the Players Union knew and tried to cover it up.

He should,

I honestly believe that Phelps unless admonished in some way just legitimized pot in the eyes of a number of children who are entering that age group where peer pressure and the like are strongest.
