It's very amusing how some people think they have a right to dictate what my priorities should be just because they want more eyecandy.  HTC knows who their loyal customers are and whining about not enough eyecandy isn't going to change that.

Thank ya Xargos.  :salute

on a side note, if you to see what is easly the pinnacle of scalability, look at x-plane..  the sim is a marvel, perhaps the 9th wonder of the world..   Its brilliant design allows for it to be scaled back and set to run on the biggest piece of crap you can imagine, but also it can be ramped up to take advantage of the latest and greatest and produce visuals that are on par with and in many cases superior to the industry giant resource potato that is FSX..
the flight modeling also puts FSX to shame.. insted of "its this plane, so it does this x,y,z  it uses  "blade element theory"  (see here http://www.x-plane.com/about.html)

not only that, it will run on Windows, Lunix, and MacOS..  and not only that you can actually run it on multiple computers over a network.. for example I have my navigation and radios running on my laptop, while running the rest of the game on my main computer.

oh yea, the team that pulled all this off is comparable in size to HTC

P.S.  Everyone I know who left AH did so because of gameplay issues and not graphics.

It's very amusing how some people think they have a right to dictate the developers priorities just because they don't feel like upgrading their system once every decade.

P.S. New graphics wont keep people from quitting, neither will better game play, nothing will, its natural churn,  but improved graphics will help bring in new targets.. players... I said players..  that would otherwise take one look at the game and figure it antiquated and never even try it.

Simple,

HTC caters to the understanding that everyone in this world isn't as wealthy or fortunate to buy multi hundred dollar computer systems and sound systems to run a game that few enjoy regardless of the "out of date" graphics compared to other games on the market.

CCP (Eve online ) Expects everyone that plays eve to own a multi hundred dollar computer system with graphics to match & has hundreds of game designers, developers, staff to run the game and to constantly update the graphics engine, resorting in more upgrades throughout your time playing, thus spending more money to update your computer to better run the game. It also has over 50,000 players that monthly subscribe more than double to amount of subscribers that HTC has.

What a great idea.... make the game unplayable for all the guys with low end computers.  Who needs an FPS of 18 when you can have rubber bullets with a FPS of 4.

Heck....why don't these guys just get a job.  Send their kids to work.  Get divorced.  Don't pay the mortgage for a month an get a wandango computer instead.

Your welcome.

EDIT: I can find more if ya want, but ya only asked for one.

ok you handed me one and again I am shown that there is one in every crowd. I still stand by the fact that almost all the players in AH not only don't whine about keeping the game playable for them but would not be angry or hold it against HT in any way if it were no longer playable for them.

on another note did stupid me overlook the link or did you add that with your edit?

typical of our "help me I wont help myself" society, hold back/punish the many who can/have, to cater to the few who cant/wont.

its a good model really, car companies should stop producing cars that are out of the price range of the sub 25k/year people,  granted all they would make is unreliable prices of junk, but at least nobody would be left out...

wait...70s Volkswagen beetle..  DAMMIT, hoisted by my own petard.

Just for the record, I've never openly ranted about upgrading the game by any means. I would love for the game to be vastly upgraded visually as the next person and i would welcome them with a smile. I'm just pointing out that everyone isn't concerned about graphics nor concerned if they upgrade the game beyond the playability of some players.

As some of the posters said above, you're going to have to upgrade your computer eventually, and i understand that. I'm just going to enjoy the game until I'm truly unable to play from the lack of system requirements.

I added it probably as your were reading it, only because I couldn't immediately figure out how to link to a single post  :frown:

I have 5 kids and 4 grandchildren, I never let playing AH interfere with my family and Ive got the God Awful stats to prove it.  But one thing I will say, when I want to play a game on the PC I don't want it clunking and coughing so I save up and build it right.

Pretty simple to me too.

I used to play Warbirds 1.1 on a PIII 450 with a Voodoo II card . It still runs just fine, but wont even run anything created in the last 5 years or so.

I guess what I'm driving at is that if one chooses to game, one may as well accept upgrading equipment regularly as the norm. Thats just the way it is. Or, one can come to the bbs and play a violin crying poverty hoping the game developers will halt natural software progression.

I'm no different than anyone else. Kids ,family , house (please no violin music, I chose and enjoy this) . I just upgraded a few months back...and immediately started stashing a few bucks here and there for the next upgrade. Such is life.

I've been a loyal customer since tour 35.  I am on disability and therefore on a fixed income.  I do not have cable TV, phone service, a vehicle nor any of the other things that many take for granted.  The only game I am willing to spend my limited funding on is AH.  You are very selfish indeed if you feel eyecandy is more important.

P.S.  I didn't post in order to get into a pi**ing contest with you.  I upgrade when I can, but can't justify the expenditure beyond a certain point.

I'm far from being an expert in the games industry, but I'd like to put a rational, logical point in here. The industry is driven by money right? They make massive profits from the latest games, running only on hi spec machines. How can that rationale mean HTC loses all its customers and income. There would be some losses from the antique PC brigade sure, but there would be far more coming in with the enticement of the 'eye candy' and they'd stay because of the addictive gameplay. I'm sorry if there are some people who cant afford it,but that's progress.

i know you never did that I actually asked you that question because my post I was looking for an example of a whine that wingnut stated has been taking place and caused him to have such a response to and you typed I just did.

I honestly had a real good idea what your answer was going to be.

I too understand and have been trying to put together money in the last few months to upgrade to a point where I can enjoy the new graphics and it seems to be coming together at the moment. This of course has been made possible by a friend/squaddie who had a few parts lying around that will help me get up to that point.

It really just iritates me when someone comes on ad acts like there is some overwhelming majority that thinks they should be catered to. This doesn't really come down to anyone being catered to but I think HT tried to find a happy medium that generates the most business for them. I really doubt that anybody is dictating to HT what to put in their game except for what it takes to keep the biggest player base they can.

I would venture to say that 98% of those that in the future will be faced with the delema of upgrading or cancellilng account will be like talon and myself and go peacefully until such time as they can do what it take to rejoin the festivities.

I really didn't want to post my system specs but i will just to prove that everyone that has posted in this thread concerning lag, fps and what not will learn to appreciate  ;)

My system specs:

P3 intel 999MHZ
Windows XP Home Pro
256MB RAM TOTAL
18GB TOTAL HD
Nividia GeForce 5500
Dell Box
Saitex ST290 Pro
Surround Sound system.

I lag, i Disco, i do alot that would cause a normal player to go nuts, but the game RUNS with my current system. Do i need a upgrade? Definitely. Can i afford a new cpu? No. So as i stated above, i possibly, no in fact i know i have the worst cpu in the aces high community but do you hear me on the boards complaining about lag, fps, etc? I fly with 15-30FPS  daily if not that much without complaining. Yes i lag and lock up when i enter a area with GV's on the ground, CV's attacking the base my cpu will lock up untill i get airborne so I'm happy tha HTC has considered keeping Aces High playable to the low end systems such as mines.

Mind you I've been playing Aces high with this Setup since 2006, I even played DGS Scenario with this same computer, and do you know how demanding the rhine map is with over 300 aircraft flying around?

*Pulls out the donation cup for new cpu*   :D

I have I think 2 p4 chips (2.6ghz+) and a AMD64 4000+ processor laying around.  I am willing to give up 1 of the p4's.
