I just saw it was available for D/L.  I'll probably try installing it this weekend.

I just read this this morning (Information Week IIRC):

Improved security is one of IE8's most significant features. NSS Labs released an independent study early Thursday showing IE8 significantly besting Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and Opera in catching and blocking malware. With its SmartScreen filtering, IE8 Release Candidate 1 caught 69% of malware, while Firefox 3.07 caught only 30%.

I wouldn't be surprised if all that added security would simply mean 80% of applications (flash etc.) simply won't work on 8.

Usually MS makes security in this way - if you can't use it at all it's not a threat as opposed to getting it to actually work in a secure fashion.

Given the fact none of the Windows operating systems have been designed to be secure (according to Microsoft), is it really any surprise there are security issues with it?

If you wanted a secure operating system, then the framework for UNIX would be a better base to start with.  At least it actually understands what users are and has mechanisms to make it difficult for them to stomp all over other users.

Until Microsoft implements a proper memory protection mechanism none of their operating systems will ever be secure.  Do not begin to think you have a secure operating system.  That is the first step to being hacked.
