This surprises you on Titanic Tues? IIRC this sort of game play was one of the primary reasons the arena caps were imposed a few years back.

A couple of whiners means arena caps? Because a few folks can't deal with a multi-fighter environment? Did the English whine when the Germans flew over England? Did the German's whine when the Allies came flew over Occupied Europe?  Who had numerical numbers? The Germans over England or the Alliles over Germany? Who cares? It's a game.

Personally, I've always felt it was a mistake to cap arenas. That's my opinion which means the exactly the same as yours. I think it adds to the realism of battle when you are in a multi-enemy fighter environment. Whining just means you're to lazy to learn to deal with numbers. I wonder why most of the old players don't seem to have issues? How could that be?

Oh yeah, I got killed the other night because I got stupid and dropped in low to clear 3-4 off some guys 6 who dropped into a mess because that's how he likes to fly. I got one stayed in, got in too deep, pinged up another, died. Could I have avoided it? Yep. Did I know what I was about to do would probably get me kilt? Yep. The guy that dropped in and who actually had no SA did exactly what he wanted to do. I cleared his 6 once, twice but he still died. So did I for doing it. He was dead the second he went in low with those guys. I didn't have to die and could have overflown the fight, got my kills and landed them. Guess what? I never heard a peep outa him. No whines. We did what we wanted to do and actually had fun doing it.  I also took a HO from another guy the same night. I was paying attention out front because I was in on some dude. I glanced forward and nearly tripped over myself trying to get outa some HOer's way and took a hit to my fuel. I bugged and managed to limp the 14 miles home in glide mode. No whines. It happens. It will not stop happening nor do I care.

Whining has a tendency to cheapen a persons credibility even if it is....just a game. Speaking of games I remember whiners actually brought the demise of a fighter sim game during the DOS days. A few whiners complained histerically about having too many people flying around every night, having to far to fly to fight. Lessee, 100 up flying and 10 miles to a fight. They got their wish. Fights were 5 miles or less and approximately 20-30 people flew nightly. Many players dropped their accounts and migrated to another game. The game closed its doors. Be careful what you might wish for.....

This really is not an attack on anyone. Just realizing it's a game in which you alone can set the rules you wish to fly by. If you die by HO say to yourself..."how did I get to this point?" You may not like the answer...you chose to do it.

There is never any _need_ for it but as said above they were prolly competing for the kill so the HO guy did what he could to get it.

Im not defending it, nor do i make a big deal of it when it happens to me. If you expect all of them to fall into a congaline and fight you one at a time in a gentlemen like fashion then the game is not for you. The trick is to have good SA and not get yourself into that position in the first place  :)

well, i had a fight back when i was still flying zeeks......me vs 4 or 5 of my ex squaddies.....they ALL kept taking the ho shots.......mostly missing. the killshots didn't come from anywhere near head on though......so it's not needed in that instance either.

ciaphas what you would have at every base will be guys vulching their own team repeatedly.

You wouldnt be able to do any missions or get to the enemy un molested.  The dweebery will hit all new levels of stupidity.

Imagine this, a Bish 30 man mission gets posted and you think  :rofl i'm going to up a 110 and vulch them all as they prepare to take off.  etc.

I like the idea, but you are right, so make it a "bad idea" in other words punish it by taking perk points away, and make it a lot, like 25 for every friendly killed, lol some would go way into the negative, but eventually they would learn.
To stop collisions on the runway make any plane with his tires on the tarmac, invulnerable from collisions and gunfire.  but not bombs or rockets. that way vulching is pointless.

another Idea to get rid of the "hourd" mentality is,   when a kill is achieved, the perk multiplier could be determined on the number of "friendlies" or "NME" in the area, with in so many yards, say 1000 or even 1,500. more friendlies on one nme con,= lowers the perk multiplier, but on the other hand, that lone con fighting the hourd = higher perk multiplier.
two things I think would really make this game great. well more so anyways.

there simply is nothing worse than a whiner.  The whiner is the bane of AcesHigh.  I tell you, being on vox and having to listen to the limp wristed ladies whine and complain is the most excruciating aspect of this game.

I can detune whiners, and mouthers, ch200 smackers and squeaky crackers, and anything I don't have to take in....but unfortunately, I can't detune timid-cherry-picker ganger-HO-runner types...  :aok

To prevent same team killing do the following:

If team member "A" shoots at team member "B" have all damage redirected to team member "A". So if  team member "A" would have caused a wing to fall off of  team member "B" then  team member "A"'s wing falls off instead while team member "B" takes no damage.

 :rofl

WTF is "smart" or "realistic" about risking a head-on collision with a bandit already on the defensive AND having a bunch of guys waste energy and SA by getting on the same bandit, instead of having at most two take care of it while the others build their E and keep watch?

See Bald, if it makes you feel any better, those 5 who got themselves low and slow swirling around with you undoubtedly themselves became victims of a higher horde when the next wave came in.

Silly baldeagle man.  Stop and consider:

They were immersed and Flying Like in Real Life.  (Kill the Enemy.  Kill him!  Dead!)

They were Flying Smart.  (Hey, they got back to their bases and you didn't, right?)

They were engaged in the refined chess-like game of Strategery (not that childish dogfighting Atari game thing).

It takes two to HO.  (You had at least five.)

It has always been this way.  (You must be very old, or at least have lost your mind, if you think things ever were different.)

So if you don't like it, well, hey, just quit!

I think you missed the jest of the original post. He had no problem with fighting multiples..... he was surprised that at least one of them was such a poor flyer as to have to HO.

but creating an atmosphere in the game where gettting HOd in a 1 vs 3 is the norm, and is defended by a growing number of numbtwits, is far worse....imo. :aok
Were you playing AH before air warrior went tits up?  vastly different community then, vastly different game then.  Vastly more enjoyable then.

uhm...

Ok so the guy sis fighting a horde and he doesn't pay attention to his 12, is it the oppositions fault or the guy not paying attention? This is a two way battle, one can argue about the lack of skill of the opposition and one can argue the poor SA of the guy not paying attention.

"Paying attention" rather effectively leaves the window as an argument when you are coming over the top at 90IAS with three behind and two in front.

State of the game.  Unfortunately, 90% of the player base seems completely unable to successfully shoot down an aircraft unless the odds are stacked in a manner consistent with that experienced over Germany in April 1945.

90 IAS (Indicated Air Speed?): almost falling out of the sky = dead anyways

Regardless if you have one or thirty bandits chasing you.You already know what's behind by the time you get to 90 AIS being chased by 5 Bandits so the most important thing to look out for is what's in front of you. this of course you are not flying in a straight line as that type of flying can lead to a really fast trip tot he Control Tower.
