IIRC when this happened, all the comments were along the lines of, "if you didn't want him in your fight, you should have called him off"  RE: Dastardly.

I too usually don't turn away help.  But, if I'm having a good fight or think I have things in hand and see a friendly hovering over head looking to pick, I will ask him to stay out.

In addition, if I'm in the opposite position, high and seeing two cons engaged, I will ask if my countryman needs a hand.

In real life?  Like others have said, and others have complained about in other situations, you don't need everyone engaging a single con.  How did it work out for them?  Besides the previously mentioned aces, other outcomes could be:

Your "wingman" dives down in front of you and gets shot down.
Your "wingman" dives down and another con dives down as well and you both get shot down.
Your "wingman" dives down and misses and you are forced to disengage and the con escapes.
Your "wingman" dives down to engage and an unengaged con is free to fly off and gain a superior position.

It's a game.  Common courtesy should compel you to ask if he wants help.  It would be nice anyway.  It's not like it will kill any one.

On the real early morning hours the other day we had alittle fighter game going on acouple of us put together since there were no fights, while I was flying I was watching Scotch fight Qartr and noticed just really how easy it is to kill a good stick if he is in a even kinda hard fight. Takes no skill to pick someone that is slow, ownage comes when your the slow guy and kill that person picking  :rock

Name'o Dastardly.

All I did was attack a Spit he thought he was entitled to.

I didn't see his name on it, and his bellybutton didn't help out and I ended up gettin waxed.

I will attack any red guys I see at any time and I will not ask permission.

I actually found myself getting REALLY pissed.

Congrats,  you got to me.

Boxman is right, it's his dime and he can play anyway he wants to.  He doesn't have to respect anyone else's game ever.  He is free to go after everything and every enemy he sees.  Why he can even follow an already dead bandit 5K to the ground trying to get enough rounds it to steal it.  He's entitled to do all that.
HOWEVER, nobody has to like him, or listen to him, or talk to him, or join any of his missions, or even fly in the same battle with him, let alone help him out when he's in trouble.  Heck, we don't even have to acknowledge his existance in the game or on the forums either.  Don't have to invite him into a squad in the MA, or FSO for that matter.  And no one has to answer his questions about the game, or teach him how to do something, or show him any of the numerous tricks and techniques to win and get kills in the game.  There's a whole bunch more the rest of us don't have to do either.
Yup, it's his right to play the game anyway he wants to and he doesn't have to listen or pay any attention to us.  Let us know how the works out for ya Boxman.   :aok

ive usually said "call it if you want help" but so few players these days seem to have/use vox that ive changed it to "shout if you dont want me to jump in". if I dont hear anything and the guy looks like hes lost advantage i'll jump in and pick. if i'm in a 1v1 and want to keep it that way i'll always call it, never assume we are going to be left to it. its the MA not the DA after all.

btw boxman if dastardly called you off, then give yourself a slap. if not then you did the right thing :aok

Boxman, I've flown with Dastrdly and recently too.  (He spells it Dastrdly...no A.  Unless we're talking about two different Dastards.  If so, then disregard this post.)  He's a good man to wing with.  Since he's not here to defend himself, I'd like to step up for him this time.  There are many guys that will check your six and call out to ask if you need help.  Dastrdly is one of those guys.

Like RT said, If you need help, ask for it.  If you see a green guy engaged with a red guy, ask if they're all set.  That's where, IMHO, the sportsmanship comes in.

But, this is you 15 bucks.  Play as you like.  Just some friendly advice.  Not passing judgement.

if he was already engaged you shoulda asked.

you jump into my fight without asking, and get into trouble......i'm out, and you're down. period.

i expect the same courtesy i extend....and i ALWAYS ask before crashing someone elses fight.

i try to remember to film every fight. some i forget to hit the record button.

i have plenty of films with me asking countrymen to stay out, and i then shortly thereafter loose my cartoon airplane. it doesn't matter though. they have plenty of spare parts for me. and it was fun. when someone just barges into my "dance" it takes the fun out. if i see that someone start getting into trouble, i exit the fight, and let em suffer the consequences. i then let the bogey rebuild some e, then re-engage.
i have films of me asking. if i'm told to stay off, i generally type on open channel something like " the 38 is out" and then back off to a safe distance to watch the fight...with film running of course.
if i see a guy with 3 or more n him, i stay out. i don't even waste my breath to ask if i'm needed or wanted.

i saw cobia with 2  on him one night, while he was on one. i dropped, and picked one of them off of his six.....i left the one n his 12 alone for him. he got that one too.

what i think some don't understand, is that this is a game. win or lose, is pretty much irrelevant. it's more fun to win of course, but it doesn't matter. it's the fun that's had in the process of getting there.
how can one not enjoy the "dance" that's really what it is sort of when you're both jockeying for position. then some butwipe comes along and ruins the fun?

i understand everyone has fun in different ways, but don't go around trying to ruin someone elses fun for your own. you can find your kind of fun somewhere else on the map.

How many times in WWII did people sit around and watch while their countrymen "dueled," an enemy?

How did it work out for them?

actually it happend alot.
wingman tactics were :1)there was a lead and a wingman,no matter how many were flying in a groupe/squad.
2)the wingmans job was to watch the leads six,not engage the con he was engaged with
they usually flew in squads or groups of squads which were broken up into groups of 2(lead and wingman)
no matter who the groupe/squad leader was each 2man groupe had a lead and a wingman
as for how it worked out for them, use your pc sometime to research ww2 aces.although history explains itself..ie
the allies won the war.

as other people have stated this is a game, not a real war.in the game its just common courtesy to ask someone
if they need help, usually if the friendly knows your there and needs help they will ask you to help.
your not going to make any friends here with attitude youve got,and you probly didnt join the game to make friends,
but you are sure going to make enemys with this kind of gameplay and your gonna miss out on alot the game has to offer.
