I fly the Typhoon because I fly like crap anyway so the poor flying characteristics don't bother me much. However, I can circumcise a gnat at 300 yards so the 4 X Hizookas are a great fit, any minuscule fleeting snapshot will do.

P47N...not the best fighter ride, considering what alts fights usually happen, but I've flown it so long I REALLY don't know how to fly anything else (nor want to)

I am not aiming to tell anyone what to do but it occurs to me the real skill is choosing a plane and learn to fly it well. As in learn to work around its limitations and discover any hidden strenghts. Then exploit the assumptions others make about it to your advantage by surprising people.

I have to disagree.  Trying different planes is fun.

Plus there is a rock-paper-scissors aspect to upping the right plane for the right job.

You learn a plane well and it is "the" plane for any job.

38's are terrible for jabo missions plus they're big frame make them ack magnets. A few hits and your out an eng or you'll more than likely end up w a pilot wound going for a CV, town or air field.

There are far better planes for jabo missions. 38's can not hold onto one bomb and fly around nearly as easy as lets say a 51 or F6.

On top of that, 38's do not do nearly as well as other planes in low furball's

There is a right plane for the right job when it  comes to that IMO

A8TOOL,

The only thing that you said that was accurate there was about the pilot wounds.  The P-38 is in all other ways superior to the P-51 as a ground attack aircraft.  What gave you the insane idea that the P-51 can carry a single 1,000lber more easily than the P-38?  That is most definately not true.  Having twice the power on an airframe that is only about 20% heavier does have certain advantages.  If you lose an engine in the P-38 you still have one to bring you home.  Lose an engine in a P-51 or P-47 and....

P-38 is one of the better ground attack planes we have in the game.  It's extremely stable as a dive bomber and the guns package is perfect for strafing soft targets.  Now, as with all things, your success depends on how good you are in it.  Those that tend not to be very good in the Lightning, like yourself, hold the view that it's not very good in the attack roll or in low altitude fights.

The only issue with ground attacks and the P-38 are the bazooka tube launchers on the J and G that increase drag and make the Lighting a little sluggish in turns.  That issue is easily compensated for by using a little more rudder to roll the nose over more into the turns.

That nose roll is what makes the game fun when fighting 38's.  You get em to do it and they'll spank ya w/ solid American 20's, or you get a chance to make em flop.  The latter is less common once you see that delicate dance by a solid 38er.  Boo 80th.   :D
