I dont see why folks feel the IL-2 is so tough. I dont think they are any tougher then , say, the Jug, or a Hellcat.

Even worse they have a huge oil pump target area. And if you hit that then the IL-2 has to immediatly turn for base for a chance to land. For some odd reason the single 0.50 of a M3 causes me more problems then the quad 0.50s of an M16. The tail area is another spot for an easy disable. More-over, and this may surprise you, its not the best plane to accept an HO with because its not as responsive as a fighter. Most of all if your holding ords or to much gas.

People do forget the IL-2 is a bomber, or at best an attack plane. Its not a fighter. Its far easier to kill in the game then it was in real life.

  • 262/163
  • il2's absorb incredible amounts of ammo
  • b-17's take patience

All maybe in that order

I fly f6, fm2, spit8 /9's, ki's, and ponies mostly..the rest are just for fun

Easiest planes to shoot down are:

  • spits
  • p-51's
  • lancs
  • niks
  • b24's
  • whatever's in the furball

Near that order when flown or gunned well enough

If you're going with tough as built strong.....It's the Avro Lancaster. Though it doesn't have many guns for defense, it can take all sorts of damage, no offense to the Boeing B-17. You can empty your small ammo (.303s, 7.62, 12.7 and 13mm) into this aircraft and they bounce off  :furious . Hell, you need to dump ALOT of 20 mike-mikes into it to do anything sufficent. Well placed 30mm on the wings should bring it down, but it takes a few. 262 is tough if pilot is good enough. A well placed .303 into the engine and that bird is going down.......just have to be able to catch it then hit it. The B-17 and B24s, well, if you're lucky enough to get through the horde of machine guns firing at you, ya might hurt one or even knock it out of the virtual skies. You can be the best pilot in the game, but if the gunner is good in 17s or 24s, don't count on getting through that wall of lead.  :salute

    • spits

    • niks

That's only because most inexperienced pilots fly them, but if you meet someone who knows what there doing each one of thous aircraft will give you a really hard time. [/list]

The aircraft which usually have me thinking WTF after i nail them, and they fly away blisfully unaware that anything has hit them are: -

B-26 - seems incredibly tough, too tough in my opinion
    F6F
    F4F/FM2
P-38 - usually it just loses pieces, smokes different colours from various places, turns into a single engined aircraft.
You cannot kill its rear gunner.

I find the F4Us to be quite tough they seem to absorb quite abit of damage before they go down, I also sometimes struggle trying to hit a C2
