2nd edition. heavy bombers is a technology advancement just like long range aircraft, etc.  Heavy bomber roll 3 or 4 dice per plane per attack. I also have the cheesy PC version.

You should try the edition that is out now.  All the "house rules" that we used to use... most we came up with on our own... are in the rulebook as optional now.  And we thought WE were the only ones who added to the game  :x

They added hidden sub movement, offshore bombardment, destroyers, artillery, paratroopers... and now all the pieces look like units from the country they go with.  Panzers, Zeros, P-38's... Same basic game we played back then... just a lot more goodies.

B17-Queen of the Skies- avalon hill.
Was cool cuz it was better single player. Played that forever. Had Air Force but didn't have any friends interested enough to try it.

Wow this brings back memories , Squad Leader as a kid had epic battles that lasted weeks to finish and of course B-17 Qween of the skys was great as a solo game . wooden Ships and Iron Men was a blast , Richtofens war is another great one . Lots of time spent playing these games and had loads of fun .

The only games that qualify that I've played are Risk, Battletech (although I did play Aerotech once or twice, I'm not gunna count it), and Axis & Allies.

Axis & Allies is clearly the best.  8 hour games were not uncommmon, and the regular players didn't complain about the length of the games, we kind of looked forward to it.  And we also changed some of the rules around... like paratroopers and added 6 techs to bring the total to 12.  Unlike Aces High 2, we had a nuke :lol . It was fun.

Hehe... I remember playing Risk with my cousins on holidays when we all got together.  Ended up with all of us being mad at each other, and I seem to remember a fistfight on one occasion.

Sounds like you played the same way we did.  After my friend lost Australia he decided to play a game of 'Global Thermonuclear War' and wiped out the entire board.  That was the last time we ever played.
The fight is the fun........Don't run from the fun!

I don't think we're talkin' bout the same A&A anymore....

It has changed a lot since the original.  But its still a great game.  What they did was listen to the gamers that played it, and added the stuff that made sense... and that a lot of people were doing anyway.

Hehe... we actually numbered all the sea spaces on our old A&A map so you could keep track of hidden sub movement on a separate sheet.  Made subs really lethal.  So we have to add destroyers.  We used ship counters from another game.

And yea... we tried nukes too.  Didnt work well.  Once someone got them, and actually used them.  Everyone would get mad and quit.  So we ended up ditching that idea.
