try turning down hardware acceration on your sound card a notch - thats an old IL2 trick when that used to get stutters

Ok thanks for the info, just needed to verify that a certain state wasn't being mistakenly triggered.

Can you guys with the stutters provide us the following info:

1-Processor type (please specify single or multiple core)
2- Are you running in compatibility mode.
3- Amount of video memory.
4- Amount of system memory.

We think we've narrowed it down but need to verify.

Okay Pyro, here is what I have:

1. AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (2.7 GHz)
2. I am running in compatability
3. 768 MB of video memory (GeForce 9600 GSO)
4. 4 GB of RAM

The compatibility mode they are talking about is playing AH in Windows 98/SE compatability mode. But since your have only a single core CPU not sure if this is a problem for you.

Rgr that. I think I somehow confused that with the talk about Vista's "run as an administrator" feature at first. Havent really had the need to touch that setting.

You can do it from the sound tab in DXDiag (if vista has that, I dunno as i'm on XP)

Also might me worth investing in a soundcoard to take some of the work from the processor

I bought one of these, sounds improved and more immersive over a cheaper sound card

Yes and here is the fix!!!! That's right finally got my computer to run with NO STUTTERS!!! It seems for whatever reason all of us who are having stutters have either Intel or AMD multi-cores, with graphic cards that give us great frame rates till the "hiccups" occur. What I did even after freeing up all system resources,
( I have 4 gigs of ram ), put more of the work load on my video card. By bumping up my Maximum pre-rendered frames to 4, I am able to use 75%-85% of my video's ram, versus of a setting of 3 Maximum pre-rendered frames and using only 50% of my video ram. Not sure what is in the coad that affects us multi-core users but the flow of data from the CPU to the GPU seems to be the key. I have now flown with everything on gettin 73-75 fps and NO lock-ups or stutters for over 3 hours now. Keep in mind with however much ram you have on your video card you may need to tweak the numer of frames that suits your ssytem best. But with 512 MB on my video card this setting seems to work the best for me. Wish everyone luck, and hopes this works for you.  :pray

What texture size, resolution and card do you have?

I did a quick test for me in offline mode (9600GT 512MB, 1280*1024, textures 512), and did try all settings from 3-8 (each time restarting game of course.
The differences in used vid mem were absolute minimal, and I couldn't get over 25% used vid mem.

EDIT: made no difference in online play.

  1  core duo E8400
  2 no
 3 512 gpu mem
 3 4 gigs pc 8400

 Vista 64 bit.......

Having FR drops,to low 40's gets better the longer it runs.
But these micro stutters,so called, occur when moving hatswitch, rolling A/C or any change of views, seem like the movement isnt smooth.I'm no expert but is there a smoothing Code?? could that be some of the problem?

 Hope this helps!

1. AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual core processor 5400+ (2.81 Ghz)
2. No compatibility mode (tried Windows 98/NT but plays no difference)
3. Vid memory 512 (nvidia 8800gt)
4. 2 Gb system memory

Hope you can diagnose this alzheimer disease and bring relief for the stuttering :)
