Patience to all, I have been tweaking and adjusting since the update came out.  I have just now gotten to a comfortable balance between eye-candy and frame rate.  I am confident that we have not seen the last fixemup patch from HTC.  It takes time folks, hang in there... :)

I too get frustrated with PC's becoming obsolete so quickly.

There is a balance, and I think HTC has to find that. While it is not too much to ask for the game to be playable on 5 yr old machines, you can't expect to run it on a 500mhz Celeron from 1998.

With three patches in one week so far, I think they are trying to do that.

The market will decide what is the best balance for them, but I think they will strike the compromise that pleases most of their customers.

If someone can't play the game as it is right now I think it's reasonable that they take a break and not spend the money until they can get what they pay for, but to say you are done forever is premature because the next patch might do it for you, and if you try, you might be able to tweak your system enough to get it going.

I only hope that the game remains playable on dial up, because for some people in more rural areas that, and satellite are their only options regardless of how much money they can spend.

You must've been in the same class Karnak attended.  Not ONCE have I even MENTIONED the game, let alone degraded it, whined about it, etc...  My post have been strictly directed toward individuals themselves.  I don't know how many times I have to tell you thick-skulled human beings this.  It seems I have repeated myself several times in three posts.

Also, I have yet to even mention the letters HTC or the people associated with them.  I haven't complained about them, whined to them, etc... like others have.  I think they do a fine job, and I have never had any problems other than the ones that I have caused.  So, next time you post with a quote from me or one directed to me, don't try to add your own words.

Please allow this thick-skulled one to explain. I was intentionally doing exactly that about which you remarked.

Perhaps that wasn't clear. It was an attempt at humor - or to bait someone who might unwittingly self-identify as...

oh well, never mind.

I put a new card in my machine I use for AH. Works ok now. I have not turned off this machine in a long time. Forgot how much work it was turning the crank to start it back up.

Bestbuy has a clearance on VisionTek HD 4850 with 512MB GDDR3 Memory $128.
They have the HD 4650 1GB GDDR3 Memory for $138.

Shuffler it is typically better to go with the 512mb cards as the memory is generally faster. This is not always the case, but the majority of the time you will find it that way. Not many games require more then 512mb of video memory usage at once.

It's forced obsolescence from hardware getting better.Trying to create an analogy with the computer industry is really just stupid because there's really nothing analogous with it.
This is a comparison of old and new versions of two games... the one on the left came out in 2000 (9 years ago), the right 2004 I think.
(Image removed from quote.)

Really AH 2.14 is still like 3-5 years behind.

Quoted for the truth. One of Sveno's room mates said AH2 now looks like a 4 year old game instead of a 10 year old game. :lol

AH2's moving in the right direction again, I'm a happy chappy. :aok

After reading this thread ive come to the conclusion that Aces High is a game played by non gamers. There needs to be a board game version. That way everyone could play.

Actually, there is a game called "Mustangs & Messerschmitts" out there that is played using 1/72 scale models on poles.

I'm thinkin if AH used the best graphics there could possibly be--i.e. 1st person shooters-- it would be far more a bandwidth hog and kick all the dialup folks out of the game, as well as many others

The graphics shouldn't affect bandwidth really. Its all done on your own PC by the video card and CPU. The stuff that goes through the internet is the information relating to plane, GV, bullet, ack, ord and ship positions. Also damage info, host messages, player text and voice etc.
