Before whining or quitting please read and try:
« on: August 02, 2009, 09:46:09 AM »
There have been numerous posts over the past few days trying to help those with issues but I'm afraid they are getting lost so I've compiled a few of them.  Please add any others you've seen.

And on a slightly different note:

If you have questions ask here.  Someone will try to help.

[EDIT]  Oh... and someone keep this thread bumped to the first page please.   :)

In very rare instances you might be able but for 99.8% of laptops the answer is no.  Typically the graphics chip is built into the motherboard to optimize weight and power requirements.

As has already been said, very rarely will you be able to do this unless you bought a laptop specifically with upgradable features.

However, you can add memory to your Laptop. On the bottom of your Laptop there will be a door that you can open (normally with a philips head) inside there should be no less then 2 memory slots. One or both should be in use. Normally Laptop memory goes in at an angle and then lays down for a more compact design, ensure you read your manual or grab it offline if you do not still have it before you try and add/replace your memory on the LapTop.

Unlike your PC that can carry memory on the Motherboard, Video Card, and Sound Card. Your laptop uses all that memory in the door on the bottom for everything. A small upgrade makes a large difference. Memory is pretty cheap right now so it is a good time to upgrade. One suggestion I would make however is to stick with a good brand of memory for your laptop. Corsair, Kingston are some of the best. I say this simply because your laptop does not have the air flow your PC will. Good memory will last you a very long time. Cheap-O generic memory could last you several years or several months.

I posted this on a seperate thread however this seems like as good a place as any to post it.

This may help some it may not i dont know. I scrood around installing my sound pack in the new release and managed to delete a crucial file to run the game. Not sure which one however since it was all boogered up i went to C drive and deleted the entire HTC folder off my harddrive restarted my computer then re- downloaded the game. Even though i had to reset everything to my likeing views, sounds, and the like i did notice alot of the problems i was haveing after originally installing the new release useing the auto-downloader went away. There are still minor glitches here and there but not as many as i had previously.

If you have downloaded all the latest drivers for youre gear and are still haveing problems this worked well for me youre experience may differ. But if all else fail give it a whirl.

What about keeping this near the top? :D

On an other note I vote for sticky, at least till a lot of these issues clear up.

If you have an AMD based laptop there is an external video card system offered to hook up to your laptop, can not remember who makes it. I've read some reviews on them and the jury is still out on if it's helpful or not.

I'm split over the whole upgrade/patch so far. I like some of it, and some of it suxs. Hmmm i think i felt that way before the patch?! It's same ole same ole then. ;)

What are you looking to upgrade Wrongway?

I have caught wind of some new-in box discounts on Mid-HighMid video/Sound cards and MB/CPU combo's.

Airflyer,Baldeagl, you guys have helped out alot - oops forgot Skuzzy -if I miss him, I could be on the "S" list. This thread " Re: Making a 300$ computer run AHII 2.14"- helped me the most, plus a little digging on my own. I don't know if the patches have helped but this weekend with no setting changes(on my part) hit detailed water "on" and  it worked without substantial frame rate loss hanging between 42 (big fight) to 59 (smaller fight). Salute to all who have thrown their two cents in, I forgot who posted the link to newegg.com for vid cards - thank you also - its nice to see folks getting their "s" together and helping out. :salute :salute

Bald if you dont mind me adding a few links to your thread I would like to put these up.

http://www.newegg.com/
While you can find cheaper sites, this is one of the best computer dealers on the net. Great customer service and prices are hard to beat on most things.

http://www.pricewatch.com/
For those that would like to find some of the less sold items for older computers and the price deal watchers. This is a good reliable site that has been around for over 10 years.

http://www.tomshardware.com/us/
This is a great 3rd party (meaning they are not paid by hardware companies to say "This product is the best!!!") site to compare hardware to get the best bang for your buck.
