Are you assuming artificial dueling rules?  There's no reason for the Spit to reverse so hard.  Extending out and climbing above a Brewster in a XVI to BnZ it to death is a standard technique.

Artificial dueling rules? Standard dueling rules.....

Go back and read what I said earlier in the thread about the Spitfire needing to extend way out before reversing. Even then, a skilled pilot would meet the Spit head-on every time, forcing the Spit to choose to fire or dodge. The average Spit16 MA pilot will not be successful very often against a good stick in a Brewster. Like the Zero, BnZing a Brewster is fruitless more often than not. It can evade diving attacks. This means that the Spit will have to slow down... Just what the Brewster pilot wants. It's never as easy as it is in one's mind.

If you are talking about average spitfire mkXVI pilots then lets switch that around Widewing. A decent spitfire mkxvi pilot should easily rope and despatch the average Brewster pilot. A very good Spitfire mkV on the other hand will often mix enough agility and vertical power to outfly even a well versed Brewster. The skilled mkXVI pilot would, as you say, probably lose to the skilled Brewster.  But then the mkXVI is not really meant for turn and burn, its not really even a real spitfire.

Undermost circumstances, pilots being equal, the better plane usually wins. But, not always in duels. This is due to the fact that duels often favor one type, usually the more agile of the two.

When you compare performance between the Brewster and the SpitV, you find that the Spit barely out-climbs the B-239 using WEP. Without WEP, the Spit is in the hole. Speed goes to the Spit, as long as it has WEP. Turn and roll rate go to the Brewster. In short, the SpitV pilot will have his hands very full. The Hurricane Mk.I is outclassed by the Brewster. So is the Mk.IIC, which means that the SpitV may be in over its head in a Co-E, Co-Alt match-up. We'll have to try that match-up some day.

I did duel a good stick who flying the 109F... He never hand a chance against the Brewster. Dumping flaps only sealed his fate. You have to fight the Brewster like it was an A6M2. Stay fast, avoid turning with it for more than 90 degrees. Don't even consider using flaps.

I will admit I like a Spit 16 and spend a bunch of time in it , it does alot but can't run and can't over power either . But I also like high eny planes most of which are early versions of all types , I just don't know why . Heck I even prefer the P-51B over the D . People tell me learn other planes and get some skill but ya know what , its not all that and a bag of chips and I do like it , so I fly it .

Perkies be damned. I just can't keep away from the Spixteen. I just feel like there's nothing it can't do.

Had a really good day today, went from a .53 or so k/d to .71 right now. Two big factors in my improvement....finally getting used to the rudder pedals, and two hours I spent in training arena the other week.

Yes I care about my k/d. Someday soon I will be +. Main problem is when I get frustrated and keep trying to up at a vulched base,

Anyways, I love the Spixteen.

Good for you man!  Have fun!   :aok

By the time Jack could see again, the Turk had grabbed the horse’s bridle with one hand and raised the other to strike. Jack, peering out sidelong through burning eyes, wheeled his musket about to make some kind of barrier between him and the bloody saber and felt a mighty shock when the two weapons connected, instantly followed by a hot blast that knocked his hands apart and spat metal into his face. The horse reared up. Under other circumstances, Jack might’ve been ready for this. As it was, blind, shocked, and burnt, he performed a reverse-somersault down the animal’s muscular ass, plunged to the ground, and then rolled away blindly, terrified that the hind hooves might come down on top of him.

At no time during these acrobatics did Jack stop holding the stock of the musket very firmly with his right hand.
