Ugh, my brain hurts. I got lost with their ant popping example, caught up in the fourth, and then got lost halfway through the fifth.

I know I am never going to take high-level physics thanks to this.

It's a conspiracy to make us believe the evolution of dark matter is creating a massive dimensional existence on the binary plane of never never land and the queen of hearts is seeking the blood of the caterpillar to stop the cheshire cat from smiling about the crap he left in her garden.

Must be some seriously strong gamma rays hitting the planet lately...it's creating a level of gullible in humans better than acid laced shrooms...wait, wasn't there a massive deep space gamma event recently discovered...that would explain a lot.

One question...

Doesn't this all sound like a bunch of bull?

We live in the third dimension... 3-D.  It's 3D because we can see things in depth, width, and length.  Nothing else.

If there ARE other dimensions, we have no way of knowing that simply because none of us have been to any others. (that I know of)
So basically, this is all cool on writing, but its really nothing more than that.  Just writing and theories.

The key thing here is you say we 'live' in the third dimension. that is incorrect. all that exists, exists in ALL dimensions. Literally, its the sum of all dimensions that make up 'you'.

The difference is, we as human beings can only PERCEIVE the first three dimensions. It is through math and controlled experiments + extremely sensitive equipment that can detect stuff that 'bleeds' into our 3 dimensions that they can be detected/proven.

Quote
After all, none of us can prove other dimensions exist, why have an entire branch of physics to figure it all out?

The 4+ dimensions are theorized to exist via mathematics. You need various new branches of science (physics, quantum physics, etc) to figure out how it works and how to use it.

As for proof of their existence... well, there's this expensive Large Hadron Collider thingy that the egghead scientists are trying to get working... and it was built exclusively to prove the existence of the dimensions we do not perceive.

What I find most interesting is that the 10-dimension superstring theory had maths and everything to explain the existance and state of matter and energy in the universe/multiverse but it failed to cover Gravity.

The M-theory adds the 11th dimension that covers that missing aspect and so far it seems to be holding nicely. The Hadron collider, if it detects what they expect to detect, would prove the m-theory as being highly likely to be correct..and man if that's so we could be seeing a MASSIVE explosion of technology for once the existence of something is proven the next step is how to use it.

Take a look at : http://videos.howstuffworks.com/ted-conferences/7608-superstring-theory-explained-video.htm

it explains the basics behind the different dimensions. Watch that first then jump to the original poster's link which covers each dimension by the numbers.

sucks that I can understand all this easily but im math stupid. Id've loved to have been a physicist :P

Sorry for the double post, but I remember reading up on something called "Astral projection"

This thread is about theories in physics, but...   There's a lot of spiritual mumbo-jumbo served up out there to be gobbled up by youth beginning their spiritual journey.  All of it is designed to either distract you or fool you.  If you want some real spiritual food try reading the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the New Testament.  Then for the rest of your life when every one tells you how awful the Bible is, you will at least have had the perspective of a person that has read some of it's most powerful content.

So in the 2nd dimension 2D is the way of life? Then I guess the whole dimension is anime. Must be a live action starblazers/space battleship yamato fight going on in space.

On the other hand they could all be wrong and we might be stuck at four.

So basically what you're saying is we have to use our 3 dimensional brains to build 3 dimensional objects using 2 dimensional numbers and 2 dimensional mathematical equations written on 3 dimensional objects and just believe that these 3 dimensional objects we created can show us for an absolute fact that more than 3 dimensions exist...  :huh

I'm sorry but wasn't there early 20th century physicists that once claimed the moon was made of cheese and that there were aliens on mars?

This stuff will give you the serious heebie jeebies if you let it.

The "folding" concept plus the "infinity" idea in that video, if true, could explain much of the supernatural activity perceived in our dimension.

I should have known this would have slanted a little ways to religous, because that's how people are.
Me? I believe that if you have math to back it, then I agree. I need evidence, and that's how I am.

I just thought it was pretty cool to know this stuff, if you can figure it out.

Ok, it lost me after the 4th Dimension. :huh

Though physisits come up with some interesting stuff. For example, parallel universes always fascinated me. Basically, there are an infinite amount of parallel universe where anything is possible. For example, in one parallel universe, I am the ultimate fighter pilot who never gets shot down. But in another, I am just a squeker who annoys the crap out of everyone (That might be this one :D)

If I understood the video correctly, the alternate universes are not universes that contain us at all, but rather are universes that have someone else that is almost exactly like us but with one or more difference.  So technically, you will always be you, but you can see someone almost exactly like you in another universe, but never yourself.  So, to make it clear, yes, you are a squeker, but only in one universe.   :D  JK
