On large maps you will get slaughtered, unless you catch the opposition at an unaware moment. During last days, the usual  altitude has been around 30k, with B17s up to 33 and escorts/interceptors up to The only successful bigger raid that I have seen below that altitudes was a 20-23k Arado 234 mission.

Here's a few pictures of that 234 mission, bottom of the page.  I believe you're in one of those pictures Lusche.  :salute Nice flying sir.  Lucky for us the plane formation you tried a couple times had already accidentally dropped his bomb load.  :rofl

You guys did a good job in ruining my 262 run. I already saw myself landing with a dozen kills when I found your raid... I ended up with 2 kills and a shot-up engine  :uhoh

Slaughtered is an acceptable result, as long as there was a fight and people had fun.  Also, Ki-67 are faster than B-17s, though definitely slower than Ar234s.

actually, it says in the update info page that the suburbs aren't bombable.

Actually I never read the damn thing so I found out afterwards when I was surprised with no 'building destroyed' messages after dumping 3x14x1000lbs on it.

I mean if the burbs arent destructible what purpose do they serve there in the first place?

The big thing is you are going to need raids like this to be effective against the new start a single bomber or 2 guys is nto going to really do that much damage.

I belive thats the point. I helps promote fights, which it certainly seems to have succeeded in already! Unfortunatly im out of the game atm due to serious Financial issues, but I hope to be back soon, and I can't wait to go on an escort or even on a big buff run! I currently spend most of my time doing just that offline!  :cry

All I know is, quite often I get asked to put up a high alt mission like these anymore. It used to not be so. It used to be that 15K to 20K was the routine fighting platform. It's now come up. More escort squads/groups/individuals have outright asked me to put something up for them to cover, because us heavies are the catalyst for the fights and fun to happen. The action is not instant, but it proves out to be pretty intense in the end. By now, even you "bad guys" have figured it out, because PM's have shown up in the text buffer asking if this is my doing. :D

There is a tangible yearning for realism & immersion.

speak for yourself... Most people will get bored and leave after a few months of furballing. Its nice to mix it up alittle. the more gameplay options the better.

Some go to something else as furballing they just die alot.

Silat and myself went up in 262s to intercept that bunch last night. It is realistic..... long boredom climbing then a short bit of fun.

Some of us like more excitement.

Thank you for starting to restrict your use of blanket statements.

I have no doubt that the high-heavy-and-escort mission will stay rather popular, but I do think that right now they're so abundant because the city is still new. After the novelty wears off they'll drop off a bit, but they surely won't be gone.

Almost no one in game is able to fly the 262 in a way that the perks gained by kills are covering the perks lost by the inevitable loss of a 262. At average multiplier, you need to kill 800 B-17's to make up for the loss of a single 262.

However, there are other, much better ways to get perks for the 262 (furballing in high eny planes like 109's)., my own gross fighter perk gain is ~1000 per month.

All in all, there is not really a war of attrition, as that would imply a large group of players implementing a long-term strategy on a large scale in the MA, no matter how little "fun" it may seme to be for a few months.
Getting the "other side" simply running out of perks for 262's and 163's simply won't happen.

I have not been paying attention to the costs of perk birds so I’m guessing you could only afford to lose 5 or 6 262s per month to use up your gross 1000 fighter perk gain for the month.  (Edit: Don't know how many 262s you are already losing each month so I should say you can only afford to lose another 5 or 6 262s each month.)  And yes, there are better ways of earning perks but it means flying something other than a perk bird at Egg’s B-17s.  So if we could get Egg to put up missions 24/7 for the month…

Anyway, thanks for looking.

B-17s flying at 33K in this game is simply laughing in the face of history.

Aside from that, 71 Squadron ran a bomber mission (we're knit) against the strats in LWO, before they retreated to HQ and stayed there. We were in the 25k range this time. The majority of our bombers made it in and out and off the enemy continent. Most of our bomber losses were folks probably intent on following us all the way back to land. I believe Wrongway smoked 3 Me262s in a row! (Give that man a cigar!)

It's very possible to do lower raids, and once players realize this it'll be "more fun" for all involved.

My issue is currently it's a 2-hour mission to hit the "CLOSE" strats, and when they jump back to HQ area it's at least a 6 hour effort... It's ludicrously out of reach.

From the Saturday bomber mission:

Nice formation cluster from the bomber view (more out of frame):

Nice staggered view with Batfink in the forground and Dentin in the background:

We did a follow-up spit sweep later (with less opposition), to give you an idea of who as in the bomber mission, here is a "roster screenshot" -- most of these guys were present during the previous run:

this is excitement, and after 50 minutes of 'boredom' (read: huge amounts of laughter and fun, plus Mulligan singing for us) it is even more intense. I just think if you can't enjoy this you lack imagination.
