Ahhh the anticipation...
« on: December 31, 2009, 12:48:20 PM »
I was initially very disappointed at the announcement of the Great War arena... great now only more dev time taken away from WWII, what I'm here for...
However more and more I'm getting very excited for some biplane action... the likes of Hartmann, Nowotny, and Marseilles, replaced Boelcke, Udet, Ricthofen... Messerschmitt, Supermarine and Boeing replaced by Sopwith, SPAD, and Fokker... the Axis and the Allies replaced by the Central Powers and the Triple Entente..

And, a flag that doesn't need to be censored!!

Very, very excited :D

I also just want to see HTC's D.VII! Very good looking aircraft. That lozenge pattern's going to be a pain to skin, though.

The WWI arena will be an excellent opportunity to become better aquainted with the low powered stick and rudder skills set.

Im excited about it, Ill be there. Probably spend more time in WW2 after a bit, but as the GWA evolves more I bet I go there more and more. I have flown but one WW1 sim (red baron) but the biplanes have always intrigued me.

With the WWI planes, I think the pilot skills are gonna surface more !
Lucky ones that run away when in "bad" situation, won't be able too anymore.

No more "cannon/explosive" rounds. Hold steady and pull the trigger !

Gonna be very interesting  :aok

I think it will look a lot like D3A fights, fun to be sure but not game changing.

You know, I'm also very excited about the prospect of a WW1 arena.

At first I was thinking that it would be just like the current MA, but with a slower planeset.  However, I've been flying an offline WW1 game quite a bit lately and I have to say that the experience is considerably different than a typical MA joust in a 300+ mph fighter.

I'm finding it very, very hard to saddle up on a bogey for an extended period, and then getting enough rounds into him to bring him down.  Also, the slow speeds these planes are capable of lead to a lot more floating around in very close quarters.  It's kind of like dogfighting in a Zero, but alot slower and closer and the maneuvers are more exaggerated.

Overall I think it will be sufficiently different to attract quite a bit of the playerbase.  Furthermore, since we're starting with a whole new planeset, it really levels the playing field among us, allowing for everyone to face the same learning curve together.

I think pilot wounds will be a major factor.
