I'm guessing you have a problem with all that...if they get more than 4 planes in there, it will be fun anyway.

I wasn't thrilled about the upcoming WWI arena until by chance I saw the movie "The Blue Max". Great eye candy with good dogfight scenes.
The movie came out in 1966 with George Peppard as a young Luftwaffe Pilot that no one wants to fly with because his selfishness got his wingman killed. Later he thinks he kills an observer in the rear seat of an enemy aircraft and forces the pilot to land. Before landing the observer wakes up and prepares to fire on the young Luftwaffe Pilot and he's forced to shoot the plane down. Again he is scorned for his actions because shooting down a helpless enemy is dishonorable.

Question: Will the WWI arena have a higher standard of Gameplay than the MA or will it devolve into some of the lame behavior we see now. I'm hoping that chivilary is not dead and players respect each other and contribute to others having fun as well as themselves.  :aok

Great movie!

Different kind of planes. Same players. In which one do you think there will be change?
There used to be a sort of code of honor wayyy back in the Airwarrior days. Back when I first started playing when it was on AOL.  Beleive it or not. many of the current type of lame gameplay common now was frowned upon by the majority. But it gradually devolved. what was once common. You only saw in the very early hours when fewer were on. As the game got more and more gamers and squeekers. That unwritten code of honor gradually disappeared.  Sadly, you rarely see it now.

The majority that used to frown upon lame type of gameplay is in the minority now. And are often called "whiners" now.

I had to laugh watching it again.  Its been over a decade since reading the book, but in the movie they make it look like that gunner woke back up and went for his gun forcing Bruno Stachel to have to finish him off (causing him to be tragically misunderstood by his squad mates ).  In the book I remember him clearly doing it deliberately.  He was furious that he was robbed of his initial kill simply because it fell behind enemy lines and couldn't be verified.  So this one he deliberately killed over the base so it was like "There!  Think you could verify that one???"   :lol

Also in the book he didn't die in the end.  There were sequels.  After the war Stachel falls deeper into alchoholism and eventually ends up flying for the Nazi's in WWII.  I guess the movie studios didn't want their heart throb movie star property to come off in a bad light so they white washed it and changed the story.  :rofl

Imperial German Army Air Service

That was prior to October of 1916, IIRC.   After that it was Deutsche Luftstreitkräfte.

A family friend was a friend (and next door neighbor) of George Peppard at Dearborn High School.

Interesting.  My grandmother's family (her last name was "Bokas" and later married last name was "Lalla") lived on the same street as George Peppard when they were growing up.  Would be interesting if they knew each other.

I wear a clip on scarf
My scarf worked its way out of my flightsuit at an airshow that my dad and I were performing at,  My plane had no trim tab so you couldn't trim it, and the throttle would vibrate back to idle, so you could not take your hand off the throttle.  Right in the middle of our routine, I had pulled up hard to do a wing over infront of the crowd with an SE-5a right on my 6, my dad had saddled up real nice.  Just about the time it broke over, it felt like someone had a noose around my throat.  I could not take my hand off the throttle, or the stick long enough to get the scarf completely stuffed back into my flight siut.  So I floundered around trying to fly, put on a show, and get that white silk noose back to where I could breath.  I finally got it stuffed back in some what and turned the smoke on, nothing happened, no smoke, well I turned on final anyway.  My plane did not have breaks, not that they were broke, they were not there, so to stop I was going to go in between the lights and run it off in the grass, No big deal.  Well when I went off into the grass what ever had plugged my smoke system dislodged, and it REALLY started smoking.  By the time I got the smoker turned off, and the smoke cleared from around the plane, the fire dept was already there getting ready to drown me with fire retadant.  That is some nasty, sticky smelly stuff there.  I managed to get them Not to hose me down, and got back to our parking spaces and at that piont I promised myself to always zipp my flightsuit all the way up, and use a slip knot so it would not happen again.
