We play games to have fun. Some take it too seriously just read 200 any day. I like to go against the odds, up on a capped field just to bail over town and sit in the map room. I've ran my pilot to town just to deny a field capture. I'm a sucker for a camped spawn. Rearming on a Carrier is fun and challenging I remember trying over and over to land on one.
Score was a measure at first when you really suck and getting under 1000 was a justifiable goal. But it's not that fun to stay safe and never mix it up.
I always wanted to fight an impossible battle against incredible odds.

responding to a call for assistance...or escort... is man law here........I hold it as sacred as picking up a friend at the airport or helping him move.

I think I used to check my score every time I flew for the first 4 or 5 weeks...now ... never.  I've been here for a while... but it still feels very much like Im still trying stuff out...and having fun pushing limits with many diff vehicles and planes.  I also tend to stick with either vehicles or planes for week long intervals....  I really get kicks from both...

I remember getting torked-off when I first got here when I felt I was the only one de-acking bases while everyone else was 7K above me recording kills.....until I realized this game is diff things to diff people...and everyone is just trying to enjoy themselves...and I'm cool with that now...and that's actually in an odd way... a point of pride with me...as is grabbing supps when needed....and not when asked.

Yea, dump her.

I use the scoring system for my own self improvement...when I get uber enough perhaps I won't....it works both ways also....A few weeks ago I was having a rough/fun night...the Dar was as red as could be, there was gangin and hoin and picking (although I couldn't tell if it was truely a pick...it could have been one of the 8 that got me  :D )so I decided that my aim was to get my K/d to a lower point for a night...let me tell you..even that is easier said than done......when you get to a particular K/d it just seems to go up and down in such small increments....can be very frustrating....I had to spend an extra 2 hours to get to the final K/d I wanted for the night...and still failed to achieve this..... :cry :cry :cry :lol :lol :lol :lol

The scoring system HTC designed still just doesnt make sense to me.  It seems to promote poor gameplay.  The more I come to understand it the more I dislike it.  I still havent been able to find the write up here on the HTC websight that even attempts to explain the mechancics of it.

I don't think a scoring system has to make sense.  When you think about it, nearly any game you care to look at that has a scoring system is arbitrary and capricious in some fashion when you look at it closely.  And MMOG's even more so.

As long as it provides enough variety for enough people to feel that they are better than enough other people at what they feel is important, then it is performing it's function, which is to help hold the players' interest.

Wow.  A post to justify your suckage.  You must be good!   :D

Seriously, none of those are good excuses.  I used to do all the same things and still made the overall top 10-15 consistantly.

Help section, topic: Scoring

http://www.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/scoring.html

That tells you how each statistic is calculated, but it doesn't tell you how those 5 or 10 stats are combined to determine rank for each mission type, or how the ranks for the different mission types are combined to determine overall rank. On the stats page you can see a rank for each statistic; are they just adding each player's ranks for the applicable stats and ranking the sums to determine flight category rank, and adding each player's flight category ranks and ranking the sums to get overall rank?

I wouldn't cry if rank went away, but I do like having the stats.

On the larger topic, I don't think there could be a scoring system that couldn't be gamed or didn't promote poor game play. The ultimate un-gamey scoring system, real life, certainly promoted a lot of things that many would consider poor game play here.

Btw, Krusty, I would think hot padding would do much more to improve your kills/sortie than the minute or so it takes to taxi and rearm would do to your kills/time. Likewise it seems improbable that augering would ever be good for score because it quarters your kill points for the sortie as well as hurting k/d. It's the using hot padding to fly long distances between fights, not the hot padding itself, that's going to hurt your score. The same is true if you play a bit more historically and up with 100% fuel 50 miles from the fight, or 150 miles for bombers. Anyway, the main reason I hot pad, and I suspect the same for a lot of players, has nothing to do with rank or "name in lights", it's to rearm ords at fields where ords are down, which I guess is a little gamey but not (IMHO) poor sportsmanship.

I thought that didn't work any more?

Anyway, when I rearm it's generally because the fighter hangers are down, and I want to up again in defense without coming from another field.

I had a very score obsessed pilot that you might have heard of say to me over 200 that I sucked because I only had x number of kills per hour.  Heck sometimes it takes me all day to get somewhere in my F4F and when I get there I find the war has gone somewhere else!

Play the way you want but don't stick your way of playing in my face is what I felt on that one.
