Being competitive and being angry are two different things.  Someone who is competitive stays in control and plays to their strengths.  Someone who loses their cool and lets their temper run things is a lousy competitor.

During my ball playing days through high school my Dad hammered into me that how I presented myself in playing the game as a teammate and as an opponent was just as important as how I played the games.  As he'd been a damn good ball player and one of the most respected too, I had little reason to question that.  All these years later I still don't.

Throw in that this is cartoon air combat with no real consequence to losing outside of having to get a new plane.

There is nothing to get angry about.

I was hoping you'd post here Dan. You are a rare breed indeed and I can believe you don't get mad at this silly crap. I too played ball as a kid. Football, and I never got to going good until I made myself mad at the guy in front of me. Once I was mad, I hit harder and went to the ball like a madman. For me it was a fight that must be won. I didn't ever play dirty or talk crap...But I did play harder.

I don't think I'm a poor sport and I hope others don't think I am. Have I mouthed off on 200 to let off some steam?..sure. Most of us have at one time or another. It's part of competition, don't you agree?

You mean to tell me you could go to the playground day after day getting your butt whipped and walk away with a smile on your face? How does that work? I went to school with a fella like that. He's either in the nut house or in politics by now.

You don't think a certain amount of anger is part of being competitive?

I thumped my desk the other week when my own bad SA ended a 100-0 262  kill streak.

something I haven't done for a long time, I thought I had it under control  :t

Picture this setting: Epic titanic tuesday furball, two opposing countries, 25 planes each.  Only you and kappa are there in jets as representatives of Knight land.  Kills are growing on trees.  So is lag.  With a 43 kill streak, a notorious rocket shooting Bf110G-2 pilot shoots rockets at you on the deck locking up your entire computer for 4 seconds.  When it unlocks you are 13 feet from the ground, inverted.  Death.

If that is not pain, I do not know what is.

I remember 1 time I can't remember his name but it started with  an F I think and makes a lot of skins anyways I spotted this very high 109 so I did what I normally do I show my tail and see what he does just biding my time till he makes a mistake or leaves. The 109 made 8 or so passes at me with no hits and left at 6K his dot vanashed and  I started my climb and reversed my course and maintained my climb and sure enough I found the 109 5K below me and started my attack another plane came in on my second pass to join fight on my third pass I blew the 109's right wing off  and he went down 3 seconds later I get a radio PM from  the 109 saying how lame I am and I am an f***en puss that can't fight worth a crap. I had to laugh at what I thought was the other friendly plane thinking I stole his kill and I replied dude I been hunting this guy for 15 minutes when he answered it wasn't the same voice I had heard before now I remember who  it was it was Fester. I didn't know that folks from the other side could radio you PM. So even the best can lose their tempers. At times I have used channel 200 to certain folks but it wasn't in anger I do it to actually instill anger in the other person. My belief is angry folk don't think straight and therefore is apt to make a mistake in the next engagement. I just let the rants roll off my back and continue what I did best and that is to be the hunter not the hunted. When my dad flew old AW I watched him for hours blow planes out of the sky in his Nik2-J. He always told me make the other guy fight your fight or don't fight at all, Never place your self in a position you can't get out of and Keep your head on a swivel good SA will keep you alive. Rule number 2 I had a hard time with but sometimes the urge to have fun takes over and the rules fade away for the most part. Just don't let anger rule your game play and all should be fine for the most part. There are head hunters out there every game has them I don't like head hunting never have but I figure the more looking for one plane means less looking someplace else.

I doubt he saved it because he did not receive credit or actually hit me.  But I'm certain he was confused why my plane yawed to the left and augured into the ocean when he fired rockets at me.

Last week I was defending a port by myself. The CV was right there so I upped from it and went after the tippy deacking the place. He hoed me, i went down. No biggie, I expected it. So I up again and head back, and there's the goon. I kill it before the tippy hoed me a 2nd time. The goon was Tripp :)
What was funny about it, was me him and Madcap were having a war of words on 200 the day before so I knew I was not his favorite person right now. I asked the tippy pilot if Tripp was mad because I noticed he logged off right away. He said that Tripp went into a rage on range channel and was saying he got set up. He didn't come back for the rest of the day  :rofl I love this game  :lol

Hey Uptown! Great topic!

I often hear people literally cursing on range channel because they think something happened. I have heard language that will blister paint and probably your eardrums as well. I also hear people get really down on themselves or their opponents and I can't see how either helps. If you died, you can figure out how to do it better. The other guy flew, did better, gamed the game better or some variation. I can be mad but that doesn't change the result.

For myself personally, I find that I fly my best when I don't get angry, in fact the opposite. I just note what happens and let it go. I can then turn to the next flight and the next fight and do my best.

When I'm angry, I screw up. I generally won't fixate on one plane or pilot because that gets you killed. I focus on the over all fight and the flow. When I'm in the flow I do well, when I'm not I make all kinds of mistakes.

Personally, I think that anger is wasted energy. Turning it to something else takes effort and energy too. Instead I'd rather focus my energy on doing well and having fun.
