P-39Q!
Nothing beats punching a 37mm shell through a guy who thinks he's gonna get you in your "lesser" plane, just because you're still lining up the single shot that will rip him apart. *fwoomp* *BOOM* "I FREAKING GOT HIM!!! AWESOME!!!"  :x

"closet".   Gee Voss, did you at least save the Scorpion that gave you Cancer?

The scorpion bite gave him a heart attack, the prospect of his scam falling apart gave him brain cancer.

Interesting to advocate for a plane that you have never flown.

Don't think any of the Yaks were certified for sub-orbital flight.

The lobotomy removed the cancer and Chalenge was born.

I thought it was the 'cranial/anal disengagement lift' that removed the brain cancer?

The P39,P400 worked better in the real war than most think! The neutering they got by government and all knowing military brass, was nothing short of a blasphemy. They still did a good job as Mud daubers like the P40's.The Russians threw out the horrible Oldsmobile 37 mm,and replaced it with a 20mm,left two fiftys on it and the P39Q was very good on the Eastern front, where the fights were lower.Along came the P63 and another underhanded move kept them out fight, mostly being used as target planes, being shot at by planes with wax bullets. The P63 could stay with the P51 at alt,but were never given the chance because of graft on the government purchaser's part.Someone was getting a kickback from North American, you can bet on that.Seen a P63 at an airshow a few years back.A local guy had bought it from a former Astronaut. He always had bought the P51 "Old Yellow",and he flew it better than he did the P63.I think he wasn't as bold with the P63,but again,he was a self taught pilot. This guy must be rolling in money, because I think he just bought this areas other P51 "Section8".

Blasphemy maybe, but if it was then the army wasn't solely responsible for the decision, nor was it done in the face of protest by the aircraft manufacturer.  I found the following in "Cobra! Bell Aircraft Corporation 1934-1946" by Birch Mathews

On January 17th 1940 after the decision to remove the turbocharger was made Larry Bell wrote to George W. Lewis at NACA.

Quote
as a result of the wind tunnel tests at Langley Field, we are getting extraordinarily satisfactory results.  From all indications the XP-39 will do over 400 miles per hours (even) with 1,150 horsepower.  All of the changes were improvements and we have eliminated a million and one problems by removal of the turbosupercharger.

Mathews also states that in a history of aircraft engines written by Robert Schlaifer, Schlaifer had the following to say on the subject.

Quote
The turbosupercharger was not developed to adequate reliability for general service until the very end of the decade.

and,

Quote
1938, in fact, Allison, Curtiss and Bell actually persuaded the Army to remove the the turbo from the (Curtis) Hawk and Airacobra fighters, both of which had it in their original form.

P40 is very under used.  I has a big learning curve so most dump it before ever becoming proficient in it.  It was simply an early model Pony (absent the laminar flow wing form...).  If you fly it 16K and under just like a Pony, you will see results.

The P-40 is an incapable plane that nobody should bother learning to fly.  :noid  :devil
