complain, excuse or accept
« on: June 26, 2010, 01:17:18 PM »
When you got shot down in a way you don't like, which one are you?

examples from one situation:
complainer - All you can do is cherry pick when I'm engaged, you are fighting the wrong way.

excuser - You had a better starting advantage so you didnt really win.

accepter -  Nice shot S! [name].

1)Human nature strangely is programed to continue doing what is being complained about the more it is complained about. So if we complain surely all we will do is encourage the enemy to kill us that way again. Complainers are usualy losing their own fights before they even start through looking for ways to claim disadvantage. It's easy to wind up someone who complains at you, it's not even a challenge infact. Complaining has always been a failed enterprise in large societies of different minds.

2)Excuse the kill, find a reason why it was not fair or it was not a true test of our defeated self. All this does is generally makes yourself feel sheepish and feel a need to keep talking. You can recognise an excuser a mile away as 20 minutes after the fight they will still be typing detailed flight AARs onto ch200 to apparently no one.

3)Accept whatever happened and give some fun to the player who killed you by sending them a salute. You might even find that saluting a person who HO'ed you would result in them saying 'Nah, I had to ho, nice flying' or some such. It doesnt have to be all roses and kisses tea party land, just acknowledge the event and move on. Sometimes you wont feel the need to salute a person but with acceptance it is easy to say nothing at all.
Saying nothign at all has a far greater possitive impact on the arena than complaining or making excuses. With acceptance can come humour, from almost any situation. With acceptance, the spitefull rivalries of complaint and excuse become respectfull rivalries with far more to gain in feelings of accomplishment or loss. Acceptance does not mean taking it lying down. It means not wasting time trying to change the past.

Obviously most people will have found themself in all three of those conditions at one time or another. No one is perfect and growing up takes time. One thing is sure though, the older we get the easier acceptance becomes, of all things. Everyone is different and three catagories does not cover human psychology at all. But it is a basic mould of three behaviour patterns that dominate any hot blooded society. So what are ya, complainer, excuser or accepter?
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

What does it mean to be shot down?

I always strive to send a "G/K" on 200.

I think most of us are all 3. Very rare are the ones that always accept a death with a smile. Right now I can only think of Batfink, CorkyJr and 999000 that are absolute gentlemen at all times. I'm sure there's a ton more model players out there, but these 3 standout the most. Oh and Ghosth is on my gentlemen list also.

Great post Batty, I'll be thinking about my behavior tonight because of this post.  :salute

Don't tune 200, but give squaddies an earful sometimes.  :D

Complain about tag team BnZers, alt monkeys, runners and 5 ENY junkies.
Excuse myself that some or all of the above had something to do with my constant obliteration.
Salute when I get in a good 1vs1 or get beaten by someone who was at a disadvantage.

Excellent, and I applaude your choice of words, "GIVE THEM SOME FUN"".

Very nice post, I try to be civil at all times, if I start to type something out that is foolish and derragatory alot of times I will log instead, let the mad fade, smile and log back in.

It's great seeing posts already where guys are saying that they show respect only when they think it has been a fair fight.  WTG you guys, choose to be civil only when you choose to for whatever reason you can think of, bring everyone down to your level and I'm sure it will be so much more fun for everyone.

Here's another one (well at least for me);

4.) Be angry with yourself that you did something (either on purpose or by mistake) you knew was wrong, and died. This does not have anything to do with the other player, it's just that you are frustrated by your own performance.

Now this can either be good or a bad depending on how you react afterwords, for me this provides motivation to keep working at getting better. However, I have been around people at times (including my self) who are having difficulty taking that frustration and using it to get better. This usually leads to less satisfaction in the game, and can promote increased usage of #1 or #2. That's when it's really important to step back and focus on being #3, or take a break from the game until you can be a #3 again.

I have learned over the years that patience will usually prevent #1 and #2 from even being an issue....  But the one thing I tell myself most of all no matter what happens ITS A GAME and I play it that way.
