Purt near getting too cold to fish. Just about froze my eyebrows off this morning, caught one crappie, got a lot of tiny tiny bites.

My wife, father, and I headed up to Lake Champlain for a pike fishing charter this past weekend.  Probably the last chance we'll have this year to do some serious fishing, and a trip that I desperately needed.  After two weeks worth of cluster headaches and a few tooth abscesses and infections, I was sick as a dog but wasn't going to miss this for anything.

The action was intense and furious, with the three of us catching 59 fish in 8 hours, plus a few that were lost before we could land them.  My wife, by far, caught the most fish, and the biggest fish.  I had one that might've topped her up to the boat before it spat the hook out.  My wife said that's because it was expecting to be reeled in by her, and had to gag when it saw my ugly mug

This was our second charter this year with Captain Mickey Maynard of www.lakechamplainangler.com, and I highly recommend him.  If you're ever in the Adirondacks region, he's well worth the extra time it takes to get to Plattsburgh.  He's a great guy, and I've always got a great bang for my buck.

Wow, some nice catches there. I've never caught anything but 2 smallish catfish and 1 small sized rainbow trout when I was perhaps 10. Anybody know a few nice lakes to visit in SoCal?

The entire fishing trip yesterday and only one Crappie, albeit a 14" SLAB slam dunk sausage head crappie. Cold but fun. Snow in the forcast, now, the season may officially be over for us in Kentucky, not cold enough in the winters to have ice fishing, but not warm enough to take the boat out without chunks of ice damaging the lower unit, so to all of you in the same predicament, cheers, stay warm, stay safe, and happy holidays. I hope this thread survives into the Spring, but in all likelihood, it won't. But I would love to talk lures, baitfish, spots and secrets that may or may not be true over the long, hard, and cold winter.  I'll send you all off with that note unless this thread stays alive.

Download them to the computer, get a photobucket account, download photos onto photobucket and look up the IMG information. I know a bit about Ice fishing, as well, so I may be able to add some pointers.

Fishing here in Texas isn't all out right now....but I fish here and there during the week and have some luck at times. I hope this thread stays up...The spawn for Large mouth will be on in a few weeks and I plan on fishing a TON whe it starts. I'm sure I'll have some pics to share.

  I wont try to discourage you in this,but you'd better have everything tied to the kayak!

 I've never used a kayak to fish but been in a canoe many times and all I can say is I'm glad we had all tackle and rods tied to the canoe,they tip real easy,and a kayak tips even easier.

  You could try an outrigger pontoon,like you see on ocean going canoes,they'll stabilize a canoe or kayak so you dont flip landing that lunker...... Yup,been there done that..... not fun!!

I'm going to be fishing for pike, muskie and possibly bowfin this spring. I know it's standard to use a metal leader but I was wondering if I could get away with some 15 pound braided line. Also, what size hook should I use, I was planning on using minnows as bait?

They have kayaks specific for angling, although not necessary, that tend to be stabler and have hatches to keep things safe. They even come ready with mounting areas for fish finder, transducer, battery etc..

Figured I'd give it a try when the lake is too rough to get my boat out onto for the salmon.

I'm sure there will be a learning curve for sure and with my luck I will end up in the water.
