Well, gents, I have found a new favorite Catfish bait. May I present to you... http://www.basspro.com/Catfish-Charlie-ExtraSticky-Dip-Bait/product/52267/-866761. Voila, Catfish Charlie Extra sticky catfish bait. It beats the hell out of the old Eagleclaw biscuits and it comes in massive 36 oz BUCKETS. This stuff catches fish and I only went one night. It is effective and it stays on the hook better than livers... By far.

I've been trying to catch a pike. The area I'm fishing in is about 4 feet deep and every ten times I cast I snag onto a shad. I figure there's probably a lot of pike feeding there due to the large number of bait fish, but why would they bite my shad imitating lure when there's a thousand live ones swimming around? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what lures to use and what techniques to use?

Went fishing last sunday and got the hell outta them Largemouth Bass. In about 2 hours, my brother and I and his friend probably caught 20 or 30, and threw back about half that much just using jigs, bombers, and a rattle trap.  :rock

Gotta love it when I can say I didn't go fishing, I went "catching."  :aok

I can't remember the technical term, but when fishing in Minnesota we called 'em "suckerfish".  About 3" long bait fish, bottomfeeder with a circular mouth that faces downward.  GREAT for Northern Pike!

Years ago my future wife & I were fishing the NE side of Lake Winona off the public pier with spinner/crank baits....nothin'.  This lady comes up, taps in a pole holder with a hammer and then loads up the hook with a suckerfish and just tosses it out to the water just a few feet from shore.  She goes back to her car to get some tea when the huge bobber she has starts moving slowly out towards the lake...then down under the water.  We shout out to her that she's got something and she hussles over to start reeling it in.  She's fighting this thing and fighting and asks for some help.  I help her reel it it and get it on shore.  Northern Pike...at least a 10 pounder!  The fish looked like a dog with no legs it was BIG.  We got her fish into her ice-box and she went home.

F6Fraven, try HEDDON topwaters. The zara spook is a nice bait to use. If they're anything at all like Musky, FIRETIGER bass baits (like in the OP) are the way to go.

And I don't recommend fishing a shad bait near a bunch of big shad, they're kinda cannibalistic.
