Any of you gents ever use one of these umbrella rigs? I would think they would be slamming for walleye. The principal makes sence, troll slow, and walla, instant school of bait fish.......We use similar rigs out saltwater fishing, but im seeing more and more of these at the local bait shop. I think if you were to tie on the jigs so they run at different lengths behind the main head it may look more realistic.....couple that with some GULP rubber bodies and its a win win. (the saltwater GULP products are one of the best things to come along in a long time, never tried them for freshwater)

This is one of those.......does it look to good to be true kind of things, just wondering if anyone has tried them.

Video of them in use for stripers ( there are some vids there for crappie also, you slab fishermen might want to check them out)

I bet the Crappie down here would love that set up .

I think they are illegal in many states. I know here you cant have more then two baits on one line. In states like MN you cant troll, or an angler cant use, more then one rod per angler. When I first went to Arkansas I asked at a bait shop how many rods per man are allowed for trolling. He ansered, "how many you got"? :D We use dual hook rigs already for perch and crappie but cant use an umbrella rig. Most fresh water fisherman, most of all crappie fisherman, simply use multiple rods instead of such rigs.

I can think of some lakes and species such a rig would work well. Most of all crappie or fresh water stripers. Again the limiting factor is probably fishing Laws in the state and the fact that trolling multiple lines does the same thing, "resemble a school of baitfish". Also while we do have freshwater fisherys where suspended fish are caught its nothing like salt water. Stripers, salmon, trout, and walleye in the Great Lakes are exceptions, some of which are simply planted ocean fish, but many inland lakes, even the deep ones, are difficult when it comes to catching suspended fish. Even many of the ones where you can catch suspended fish they are still never far from structure. And an umbrella rigs looks far to expensive to hang up on weeds or the bottom.

Ive toyed with salt water rigs like meat rigs off of salt water flashers with mixed results. Certainly not as good as the tried and true and not good enought to buy more of. But if legal I wouldnt hesitate to use a light umbrella with minnows for crappie or perch. Most of all crappie.

Pennsylvania is as many rods as you can use.....max 3 hooks on one line.....I was thinking of getting a couple of these and give them a whirl....Id just use 3 with hooks, and make the other 2 (keeping them closest to the head) as un hooked teasers.

Too hot to fish here today,(100degrees  :O) but ill be on the lake on the 4th.   :aok

In NY as of last year we are now able to use 3 rods per angler, instead of two.  Definitely helps when trolling by myself.

Got out yesterday afternoon and this morning.  Not a ton of action and the lake was pretty snotty both days, got tossed around pretty good.  But was able to haul in 3 Kings, 2 Steelhead and 2 Lake trout.  Got a couple pictures of the better two kings from this morning.

Three more weeks and I will be surf fishing in the Outer Banks!!

Very nice capture!
...but your fish are overweight!   My little ones are cute colorful, :D
I eat them raw for dessert from this cold clean waters.Yesterday was the first day open, got about 25-30 in 2 hours, a bite every cast; this place is frozen from November to June and now are hungry swarming around the streams feeding the lake.

Yup there are still reports of Cohos being caught.  They are preferred for eating.  But I think fight wise it's tough to beat the King.  :)
