Frankly it sickens me, but doesnt surprise me, that the richest of the rich feel no obligation towards catch and release of mature Billfish just so they can make another $300,000+ for their portfilios. What isnt shown is all the lesser fish caught and killed, all of them mature breeding stock, and will end up as shark chum just cause the fisherman thought they might win money by killing them. The Govt. of Bermuda should be shamed.

Not sure it is a class war thing.  You have something against people being or getting rich...Rich?  lol  ;)

I'm not defending them but all those "other" fish would be sold to restaurants across the island.  Every edible part would be turned into cash a couple of times down the chain...fisherman -> restaurant/grocery store -> customer.  If you know how fish chowder is made...a few inedible parts too, that are strained off at the last minute. :)  If any endangered species are caught on single deep trolling rigs I am not aware of it.  The fuel for one trip is bound to be in the 5 figure range and the sales would simply defer the cost a bit.

Killing the Marlins is the issue I have and by all means vent all your shame at our government and the owners of the mega boats on that point.

The greatest gift we can give our kids is to preserve and protect the earth as best we may. As a sportsman or woman we are oblgated to release after catch the species whose future is not assured. Certainly the Billfish are in trouble, but have been helped by the recent introduction of catch and release by our generation. So why take a step backward, most of all by rich people?

You dont have to kill to experience the thrill of catching these marvelous fish. You dont have to kill to have a tournement, you simply have to measure them on the side of the boat prior to release. I assume if you can afford a 50' offshore boat you can afford a $500 video camera. As for gas most of these <choke> sportsmen have motored in from all over the Caribbean. If they can afford the gas for that I assume they can find the money for a days trolling. Besides you can still have your tournement and win your $$ if thats all that matters to you. Just dont kill the mature fish needed to protect the fishery. Its bad enough what the commercial fishery is doing to them. Why add to it by throwing kill tournements for rich people so they can have their Kodak moment?

And brother if you think all those marlin caught end up in the bellies of poor people then you are living in a dream world and dont know much about people. I'd bet they are mostly ending up either on the wall in a rich guys trophy room or on an airplane bound for Japan so other people of means can poke at chunks of them with chopsticks.

I totally agree with you on the marlins...and certainly never implied the marlins end up in poor people's bellies.

Perhaps you should reread what I wrote.

Me and my buddies normally catch our bait of the creek that runs by his house. We use minnows (some can be anywhere from 6-12inchs long) and crawdads.
For the big minnows we cut them in half I prefer the minnows heads great for bass and catfish.

LOL, That was a quite large Great White off of Cape Cod the other day. Luckily for the kayaker he didnt look enough like a seal to have his day ruined. He said he looked back when he heard another guy scream and the nose of this monster was right up to his kayak. :uhoh
