Best part of the tuna ive ever eaten is the cheeks, and collars  :aok  Grill the collars in a soy based BBQ sauce, and finish with a bit of lime juice

If your shore fishing
Try fishing the same lake either early in the morning just after sunrise or later in the afternoon. I find lakes like that are most active with desirable fish near the shoreline during dawn and dusk. Also learn to read your structure and use either lures or minnows for bait as opposed to worms.

during mid day
Look for pickerel in and near the tall reeds and around thick lilly pads and Bass in and around the shady inlets

Actually had that happen once.... 30 plus mins reeling in a YF Tuna, only to have a monster Blue shark come in 10ft from the boat and take 3/4 of it....scared the tar out me......object In mirror definately closer than they appear

Looked at my buddy and the first thing that came mind was "were gonna need a bigger boat"  we still laugh about that shark to this day.

Went out to Honeoye lake ( one of the smaller Finger lakes) yesterday morning.  Got 10 bass (9 LM and 1 SM) nothing of any great size but was my best day so far quantity since taking up bass fishing.  Didn't take any picture of fish, was alone and the wind was blowing pretty good so I had my hands full.  But I did snap a pick when cruising to a new location that I thought looked pretty nice.  Hopefully my other boat will be back from the mechanic and in the water before next weekend so I can start chasing some salmon and trout again.   Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend.  :cheers:

Nice Bug, very slightly jealous right now. That said, got my first ever fishing trip since I moved across to the US this coming weekend. Should be interesting, just spet some cash on a nice soft rod, to compliment the other 2 I have (differing levels of stiffness).

Gonna need some luck, and if anyone has any bass, trout, and catfish tips, let em rip.

I put a beat down on the trout on Saturday but my reel felt like it was about to explode so now I have a care package coming from Cabelas.

In slightly related news a houseboat with 11 people on board lost power above the dam today and got sucked through the roller gates.  Everyone is ok I guess.  I happened to be by there about 10 minutes after it happened.

The tax man can be rather unnerving. I remember waking up on the 2nd morn 'bout 3am to find one passenger "fooling" around with a mako that liked our lights. The fisherman had white spectra and you could see it on top of the water along with the ripples the mako was making about 80 feet from the boat. All of a sudden zing - his reel going off and then snap. Mako got caught up in his spectra and bam there went ~$50 bucks of spectra trailing off with this mako. I got a good glimpse of this shark and his smaller friend. They were ~14feet and ~12feet respectively (some of the biggest I've seen out there but not unusual,) definitely don't want to fall overboard...I try to stay off deck unless someone is within ear shot when it's dark.


I'll have to look into bringing home the tuna collars this season, only problem can be cooler space on the drive home, I have to cross the desert and even at 3-5am it can be 100 degrees for the duration of my drive after I cross the mtns leaving San Diego.

We went to Port O'conner Texas in April and fished Espintu Santo bay for two days.  Using foot long leader and weight off the bottom with live shrimp hooked behind the horn or dead shrimp ringed on.  This first day was 9 redfish 14 black drum and 3 trout. 

This photo was our second day  :rock  Limit!  12 red 20 Black and only 3 trout. 3 or 4 27 inch reds in there   I pray for days like this  :pray

Yeppers..we ate the cheeks...smokers prerogative!!

We steaked some up, had some sushi, ceviche and smoked the rest....

there was plenty of feed for family and friends..

you know the quote `We going to need a bigger boat`....
well ours was ` We`re going to need a bigger Barby..` lol

not sure what the lure was, its what some commercial fishermen use in the area..
it wasnt deep

cant wait to get out there soon again, as I have no boat, only recently moved from the center of england, the furthest point inland,to NZ, its a real treat to do any kind of fishing .Going out in the boat is an awesome treat..I want more! addiction has bit...hook line & sinker....

Now that is one happy wife.  We were visiting my dad in NE Mississippi where he has some acerage and a five acre pond.  We got up early one morning and loaded our gear in the john boat.  She hooked into this really nice bass and the fish obliged us by taking us for a ride around the pond.

Theres a lot to be said for just plain catching a lot of fish. Makes me remember my trips to the Viking Starship out of Montauk point for night blues. I dont have any pictures but it was as close to catching "more" fish then I wanted to that ever happened to me. Nice catch.
