Nice fish Steve, Flench, hope you had a great day for your birthday. Got a trip planned (wifes birthday), set up a trip with a professional guide (championship winner etc etc - Pete Marino). She knows were going fishing, but not that she's going out on a pro class boat, with a pro angler lol.........should be interesting.

Damn that's a nice smallie, I bet he put up quite the battle.  It's been a long time since I've been "up nort"  but I don't recall ever seeing one with such dark coloration.

You have a good eye. There are a lot of tannins in the river which make it quite stained, thus the fish are an interesting color as well. In the local lakes, and farther up river, the fish are their natural green/silver/white.

Pound for pound.. nothing fights like a smallie... they have a big tail and are very muscular/compact.   awesome fish.

Flench you would love it.  IMO they are one of the most exciting fish to catch.  Pound for pound they put up one hell of a fight, and are known for their propensity to tail walk.

Ya, we have seen some muskie this year,  one friend caught a 43" and my nephew Casey caught his first muskie this year, a 34". Have a great Go-Pro vid of a muskie wrecking a friends spinner bait.. from the same trip I caught that big smallie on.
Below are more properly colored smaillies taken from the Willow flowage in July. On spring fed lakes they get greener still.
