 Tec,while you are correct they make great bait they also taste great.. taste great,great bait.....Hmmmm sounds familar... :neener:

  However the tastes great part can vary and if you catch them in a muddy area well you can expect a muddy taste!   Catch the bait in muddy areas and go for a meal where there's plenty of rocky bottom!    I'm betting if you try this you will notice the difference.

I took my niece and nephews fishing for the first time Saturday.  It was pretty nerve-wracking the first 20 minutes as we went to a place I've never been (but knew was kid friendly with a park and playground 100 yards away).  I didn't know if we were going to catch a fish or not.  Then my oldest nephew (9) caught a nice 12" bass - his first fish :) His dad got the whole thing on video and the kid was just pumping his fist and jumping up and down smiling ear to ear.  He ended up catching another bass later and a bunch of pumpkinseed and bluegills.  His sister (7) also caught 2 bass that day plus sunfish, and his little brother (5) mostly had fun playing in the water and collecting geese feathers, but he caught 2 sunnies too.

We ended up with 22 fish total (or 622 as the youngest said - he's a quick learner)!!! The day really couldn't have gone better :)

Even if you purge them?

My first few sets came up blank but I was pretty lazy about where I put it, and then the weather went to crap most of last week.  Most of the places I could set up on rock are not spots I would trust to leave them out, or put them in during the daytime, so I used my waders and went to a spot I could stick it in some old timber without anyone seeing.  I think I'm gonna have to set and pull in the dark, which is OK if I can find legal spots to do so close to home.  I've got a couple areas in mind so I'll give it another try this week some time and we'll see how it goes.

Finished all my work....spent 6 days at the lake week before last...I love this thing....



Looks good with the new carpet I think...

That looks real pretty Red, nice job on the carpet fella.

Wife and I took the boat out yesterday - got up early, wife not feeling too well, but still wanted to go. Got 3/4 of the way to the lake, and then I remember I haven't cleaned the lower unit from where the guy showed us the engine works _ lower units have to be dry to prevent quagga mussels etc being transferred. We find the nearest walmart, grab some compressed air etc to blow through there. I drop the engine as low as I can get it, and sorted that out.

We get to the lake, launch was easy, though we found out neither my wife or I can back up a trailer for anything - good thing the launch ramp wasn't busy. Get on the lake, we're there 10 mins, and I need to drive the wife to the ramp to use the restrooms. Get that done, and we're finally fishing (and bickering like 6 year olds). Going across an area named the tyres (Lake Perris in CA), the water is a lot lower, usually you cant see them, yesterday, I was floating over them with about 4ft of water under the hull. I finally get a bite, on a square bill crank, and just as I swing it into the boat, it sheds the hook, bounced off the carpet and went back into the lake. That counts right, I look at the wife, and she's laughing hysterically. Nope, dont count. We caught a couple of small bass, to officially beat the skunk, but I wanted the first one to stay around, as it looked big - but never got to weigh it.

Recovering the boat went much better than anticipated - only took to runs to get it just right. Ended the day around 4pm, sunburnt, tired, but happy. Boat is constrained to 5k maximum revs' for burn in - lost my bottle at 4k, as we hit 35 mph.

Carpet did come out good....and Actually.....

When I finally got going , my wife  , who used to do upholstery and carpet work was telling me to wait. She wasn't sure I could do the lids. Well I did one while she was gone  :lol and it looked really good. She said it looked good and I went ahead and got going on the rest. Her knowledge was very valuable.

Anyway I got all the lids done and cut out all the carpet for the deck using patterns from the old carpet.... Nothing was going to do but for her and my stepson , who used to help her quite a bit , to do the deck....so they did. I did all the lids and they did the deck. Forst time ever attempting this for me was a bit scary I must admit....but once you dive in and the old starts coming off your pretty much all in. :eek:

All in all its great. There are a couple of spots that unless your REALLY looking hard you wouldn't ever notice...but I was helping a little...know where they are and still don't really see em....It's comfortable and not to hot even. I'm proud of it.

Wet lines and egregious lies, my friends. Any of you all with side-scanning sonar, do youlike the features? If you're in the business or have had multiple systems, which one performs better than most? I like Hummingbird, but I want to try a Lowrance. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, guys..

Our Lowrance side scan is just as important as our fishing poles when were offshore.  We mark bait with it, which in turn finds the fish.  We had a day 2 weeks ago where we were drifting a sand bar with no results, turned on the side scan to read 200ft out and realized we were about 100ft off the bar we wanted to be on. Moved over to the correct bar and it was game on.  Drop and reel fishing for 2hrs straight thru the outgoing tide.  The nice thing about the Lowrance is the clarity. It's simply amazing.  That and I can update the software via my laptop on to an SD card and take the Sd card to the unit, never having to take the unit off the boat.  

When it comes to these units the Hummingbird vs Lowrance battle is just like the Ford vs Chevy argument.  

I'll never own anything but a Lowrance, they are by far my favorite, their clarity is much better than the Humm IMHO

Good. It was so cold last winter the lake has stayed cold and its been a fine salmon year. Even a lot of coho and steelies from piers. Perching has been good and they kept it open in July for the first time in awhile. If you never had Jumbo Perch fried up in Beer batter then youv never eaten.

Back when I had my trolling boat fresh Coho on the grill always seemed to make a lot of friends and family come by.

Cool but what is a Coho ? First time I have ever herd of one .
