How the fishing going for you guy's ? Been very slow around here . Too hot .

Poorly...the lakes have been rising and falling about every 2 weeks and has the fish really screwed up...last year the water stayed up in the lakes and fishing was good...this year the fluctuations are really screwing me out of my yearly supply of catfish...we took the boat out Saturday night and stayed out till dawn...my wife had a fish on that got off other than that it was a wasted trip...and the next day or the same day (when I woke up) I found what appeared to be a bullet hole in my lower unit (about the size of a .22 round)...even the paint was splattered around the hole  :furious :furious :furious :furious... I was crazy with rage...catching a stray round through the yard didn't bother me...but the round hitting my new (new to me) motor  ....I followed the trajectory as it hit in a weird angle and it lead right to my neighbor to the north of me...I have yet to confront them (as the next round might not be stray)...when your neighbors are your water customers its best not to piss them off when you have to be in their yard every month and rely on them to put their biting bellybutton dogs up...regardless I am devastated...I patched the hole but I don't have the money to take the lower unit apart to get the shards of metal out of it...It wouldn't have bothered me if they would have shot my ski boat as it is paid off...but this one isn't and isn't going to be for some time...needless to say I guess I'll be making payments on a very expensive yard ornament for a while

<in my best Bob the news anchor voice>
And for the threads east coast saltwater report...we have our roaming BBS Saltwater fisherman Mbailey....take it away Matt

"Thanks Bob" to sum up fishing out on the ocean from the Carolina's to the entire coast of New Jersey, fishing can summed up in one word......SLOW!!!

I've been out a dozen or so times this year, and spent all last week surf fishing off LBI Nj and it has just been miserable.  I think Hurricane Sandy has something to do with it.  Everything just seems to be late this year.  Stripers usually run end of March thru June....peak of the season is middle of April. This year mid April was a bust and they didn't show up in numbers till the middle of May , and only then for a few weeks

Fluke fishing has so been in the pits....normally this time of year my freezer is flush with big flounder/fluke filets but this year I've caught a total of 2 keeper fluke.
Seabass nada. This time last year we would each (4 ppl) limit out (15 per man per trip)   Not this year, I've caught a total of 3

Out at the Canyons the tuna bite has been fair but not what it was last year. Catching more Blue sharks than anything

Shark fishing on the other hand has been crazy good. Makos, threshers and Sand Tigers galore ( which is wonderful as I really love sharks...great creatures that are such a value to the oceans, good to see such a healthy population...it's rare we keep one.  Most just get a dorsal tag and released.

"So that it... This has been your roving BBS saltwater reporter Mbailey, this report brought to you by Susie's Hot Fat Crabs, the only crabs you wife doesn't mind you bringing home .........Back to you Bob".  :D

I have never judged my enjoyment of fishing by how many fish I caught.  I grew up in Wisconsin and our property was bisected by "Trout Brook".  Guess what I did every day in the summer?  Yup, went fishing.

Maybe the post should have been titled "Catching Fish"

I've got a funny story about my "new" boat I want to share...

First of all it's an older boat that is strictly for fishing...there is no pleasure in taking it out...it has a 90's model 25 hp Evinrude on it and its about 17' long and aluminum...

So we take it out the first time and putter out from the ramp...I tell my wife to hang on as I push the throttle all the way down...(now...my ski boat is a heavy 60's model Glastron with its matching 55hp motor...you put the throttle down on it you better be sitting down or your gonna be on your back) the look on my wife's face was priceless...we might have been going 8 mph...she asks "is that it?"...I start pushing harder on the throttle and nothing, so I tell her yeah I guess that's it...I spent a lot of money on this boat...and I am embarrassed...and she is pissed...royally pissed...we fish for several hours and we catch nothing but I am catching mortal hell from her the whole time...I try to convince her that this boat is so light that this can't possibly be it...but that doesn't make it any better...the next time we take it out we go about 7 miles across the lake to get to one of our "spots"....it takes forever and again I am catching a terrible cussing from her...we fish and catch nothing again...can't even cast net enough shad to put out our jug lines...so she asks to drive...I'm in the nose of the boat, so I make my way back to her as she complains about the stiffness of the throttle...I reach over her and slam the throttle down in semi-anger....out of nowhere this boat decides to actually take off...the nose of the boat jumps up in the air and the motor is screaming throwing a rooster tail about 15' into the air...I was on my back before I could do anything...my wife is screaming obscenities about us going to die...im trying to get up off the floor to assess the situation...I get to my knees and we are moving...way faster than I feel we should be going...I tell her to let it run as I start my way toward the nose of the boat...as I try to get in the chair she chops throttle and I fall again...thankfully she knows how not to swamp the boat and we slow down...Now my wife is excited, looking back I think she was more excited about her almost getting rid of me instead of the boat running to its full capacity...It was a good day in the end...

Wet lines and egregious lies, my friends. Any of you all with side-scanning sonar, do youlike the features? If you're in the business or have had multiple systems, which one performs better than most? I like Hummingbird, but I want to try a Lowrance. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, guys..

I have the Humminbird 1197c SI at the console and 997c SI on the front....love it. Great for deeper water structure fishing.

My wife is not allowed to touch the boat controls.  The only other person I trust is my 13 year old son.

8/17 - 8/18 on the El Dorado, boat left at noon on 8/17 (fish are close, hint)

it really was an extended 1.5 day trip, we got on a good kelp first afternoon:   http://www.eldoradosportfishing.com/

"8/19" on this per this website:

http://www.sportfishingreport.com/pages/boatdetail.php?boat_id=84

13 yellowfin and 1 bluefin for me. Several fish farmed (hooked pulled, gaff miss, tangles etc.), several tuna released when I figured I had enough meat for me and the family.

blue bags are filled with filets. That's the Captain in the black El Dorado shirt; truly a working Captain from dawn to dusk.

pics need to be cropped and fitted, but that's a taste ;P

Hey Wurz, hows the new boat been treating you?

Hey Tec, boat is pretty damn impressive truth be told.

Been fishing as much as possible recently, thats on hold now, as I've jacked my back up (big time).

For a smaller engined boat, this thing is quick - did a run (entirely illegally lol) on one of the lakes here, topped out at 52.5 with 2 onboard, half tank of gas and full fishing load. Lake limit is 35, but got curious.
Space wise, ideal size for 2 anglers, 3 at a pinch if the 3rd doesn't mind fishing in the middle of the fore deck.
Storage - holy shamoly - I currently have all of my fishing gear, 14 rods, life jackets, throw cushion etc etc etc all stowed aboard - and still have space left. The seats do not live on the boat, they go into the truck each time we go fishing (major pain in the neck they are, but worth the hassle).
So far, set a pb for a lmb at 6.7 pounds - for Lake Perris, thats considered a small pb sigh - guy next to me last week had a 8.2 - they are still fattening up post spawn and lying deep in brush and ledges.

So far, so good - asked the wife about her thoughts on the boat - first thing she said, we should have got a bigger boat (Le Sigh - women, make your mind up already).

Things I wish I could have afforded to get done, get the fish finders networked, and the one of the console to have side/structure scan etc. Once I get some money saved, I'll get that sorted out.

Hows things with you lot, all good I hope.

Rot, that looks like a great trip out, nice job fella.

I hear that Flench, I try to get off the water before the heat max's out - being on the water in 117 degree weather not fun. Perversely, today would have been lovely, had a storm front come through, really nice this morning at 5am (woke up due to back pain lol...)

Good to see ya btw, been a while - still flying the extended range r/c?
