The guns on German planes are a little tougher to use than the M2, mostly in part due to the lower muzzle velocity of the German guns and they cannot 'reach out and touch you' at the ranges the M2 can.  Last night took out 2 P-51s that both came screaming down on me for the bounce, got both on the overshoot, one at 800 yards and the 2nd at 1000yards.  The only thing that prevents more kills at that those ranges with the M2 isn't the gun itself, it's the gunnery skill of the pilot that is the limiting factor.

Thats correct, the M2 coupled with the F-86s radar ranging gunsite had an affective range of 2 miles.

Hmmm, it appears I'm either overestimating the A8's structural integrity, or under estimating the .50.

I'd say it's a mix of both.  The reason why a lot of players think the M2 is porked is because they are just simply not hitting at the convergence point and/or not hitting a critically vital area on the bandit.  You can be the greatest virtual shot in the world that would make Marseille look like a crappy but it does no good if you place the rounds in where it does the least damage. 

I'm not saying the Butcher Bird isn't a tough plane, it clearly was but some tend to get into a false notion of it being uber armored (in some minds, like the IL2) because they've run into many a pilot who really isn't all that great of a shot coupled with a lack of understanding about hitting at the convergence.

oh no the LA is one of the best runners, and sad to say most use it that way, but those in the "know" understand it is one of the greatest fighters in game.
