How about play to fight. Winning the war does nothing.

Neither does winning the fight, basically it is six of one half dozen of the other.

My Opinion

Fred

everybody has their own idea of fun.

some of us like to fight, sometimes in furballs, sometimes 1-1. we like dancing in the sky to gain advantage, and hopefully victory.

some like to capture bases. same thing. they like to have those massive tank/gv battles on the ground.

some like to capture undefended bases.....and will head to the next undefended base if they encounter resistance.
some like to bomb.......not necessarily for any reason other than to hit their target, and get their ships back on the ground.

as long as you're not grieving anyone, just play to your idea of fun, and the rest will come naturally.

The majority of players don't want to fight 2nd best v 2nd best aircraft. They're just like real pilots and want the best in the air. WW1 and EW are not what most players want. They should try a Korea arena. Mig Alley would easily out draw WW1 and EW combined.

If planes were added that filled in the gaps of the early and mid war plane sets you would see an increase in the population for both arenas.

I suppose it's a matter of having everything vs having your choices limited.  Granted, the few times I've flown mid-war I've enjoyed it, especially since in most cases "gentlman's rules" apply. (1v1 challenges, asking before getting into a fight, etc.)

In contrast, MA is *very* competitive.  There's far less cross-country chatter (at least in messages) and forget going 1v1.

If early and mid war had something to make them unique it would probably be more interesting.  Maybe add 1 or 2 planes that you can only fly in each setting?  (Curtiss Hawk, French birds, etc?)

hmmmm sounds like EW and MW need to get some dedicated players / squads to populate the arenas and try to draw some competition in.  Seems to be working elsewhere.

Or, in other words, HT sold you the toys it's up to you to make them work for you.

Just sayin...

there was a time when ew was fairly popular.

it seemed that every night going in there, there were between 40 and 60 pile-its in there.

then came a base rolling squad. we used to try to fight against them a lot. it didn't happen. they'd run to an undefended base, and repeat.....we'd move there, they'd run to another. they'd sometimes even start attacking another country, so we couldn't defend, unless we switched sides.....

we moved out of that arena into mw. it was pretty popular. more pile-its than ew had. good fights to be had everywhere.

then came a base rolling squad. they're better than the ew rolling squad though, as they often times will fight. the problem with this one, is that they become the mw version of a horde. i know, because i used to be in that squad. i'd come flying to the fight, and see 6 or 7 friendlies on 1 red guy. i know that couldn't have been fun for the red guy, and i for the life of me can't understand how it was fun for all 7 of the friendlies.

now that i'm not in that squad anymore(and i do like quite a few of their members), i'm on the other side of htat horde. when they're going for the capture, many of them will take pretty much every cheap shot in the book. often when they have you outnumbered, and have no need to do so.
these same ones will also whine, cry, and complain when the tables turn. again.........this takes the fun out of it, as they grieve defenders. many members of that squad are cool people, and great to fight with/against.

i think this is what killed ew, rather than the plane set.....and i think this is what is killing mw, rather than the plane set.

No.

I want to  point out that even the addition of 3 new planes (including the mighty Brewster) didn't change anything.
