I like Metallica, new and old. Why should a band play the same old stuff they played 20 years ago? Sure, they're new songs aren't quite as "awesome" as their older stuff, but I wouldn't want to listen to the same old songs for every new album they make.

Come on man, even you should be astute enough to understand they had "sold out" by the making of this more "mainstream marketed" record.    To say "no" to the fact that Metallica themselves have admitted, says a lot about their fan base.

I was 10 years old when Kill em All was released and loved it as much then, as I do now.   Ride the Lightning was great, but "Orion" on MoP is their Opus.    Here is a song that is damn near perfect in song, that lyrics aren't even needed.    "One", "Blackened" and ...And Justice were overplayed and started the "mainstream breakout" altogether.

Today, they are a small shell of their former selves.   Suing Napster, so they could use the money for more blow (before their personal dealings as addicts).   Lars, trying to come across as one of the most intellectual humans ever to grace the Earth.   Kirk Hammett and Trujillo are excellent musicians and hopefully get their share of proper input in the coming albums.

I choose to remember pre ...And Justice and ignore all of their "hype" from new releases.   Although, Trujillo is their best Bassist since Burton.   Newstead was not as "free-form" as I thought he could have been.

Meh.  Black Album is their best.  And justice for all #2.  Load #3 (flame me!).  I don't care that it is softer and more 'mainstream'.   They sound better, because they are better songs.

Seriously Grizz, you ARE the first person I have talked to and puts that as their #1.   I wasn't "telling what/what not to like" and I'm sure you knew that already.

Trujillo is awesome for sure.  I loved him in Suicidal and Infectious Grooves.  Met him once at a concert, really cool dude.  I agree that Black album is bubblegum, just not as sweet a gum as Madonna or some  such.  It's more BigRed than HubbaBubba if you get me.  Garage Days was good too K, don't leave that one out.  I prolly should have mentioned Kill'em all and Lightening, thanks for picking that one up.

Nobody can really flame you man, it's all just opinions really.  I agree with your #2 pick, just none of your others.  But what someone likes is just what they like and that's it, subjective not objective.  You have every right to be wrong.  :D

With that said, I remember a few years ago I got in my car with a buddy, when I turned it on there was some gawdawful song playing on the radio.  I said to my friend, this is like a toejamty band trying very hard to sound like Metallica, I hope they never play this again.  A minute later the DJ comes on and says how that was Metallica's new single.  We both got a really good laugh.

If you are going to say something so asinine could you at least elaborate?
Well yes i will.
Lars : His drums have lost their low end. Along with a trashier tuning. Snare is a bit too over powering along with some cymbals in the mixes since (black album). His writing style has lacked since that albums as well. Personally tired of hearing him hit the cymbal and snare together on the upbeat. Lars in my opinion has always been a sub par drummer. And is very over rated.
James : Is actually trying to sing but, poor guy cant cut it. His natural tone isnt made for the notes he attempts.
His guitar tones have lost their edge. Too many highs and mids with very little lows.
Kirk : Has he EVER played a song without the same old played out wah peddle lead? And his tones have changed as well. For the worse. His writing style and note choices are very easy and not to his level.

Their production on their albums is lacking VERY bad. It is sub par and not mixed very well. Ive heard better demos from local garage bands. Their overall writing style is lacking very bad. Its almost like they pound out a few songs that are easy for them and say "#$@ it, throw it on the album".

As Far as robert, that guy has his act together. Top notch bass player, great tone, clear and great stage presents.
Writing style is 2nd to none. Great use of notes. Doesnt over play but does show some skills.

My overall view on Metallica. Once was a great band. But burned out long ago and they refuse to let it go. So they throw crap noise out about every 2 or 3 years just to make a few dollars.

Im saying all this from my professional stand point in the music business. Many producers and engineers have had talks about their last couple of albums. And those talks wasnt good.

He does!   His moment of Zen is when he starts talking, stops, looks off camera and up, then goes into "speech".   It's sad but funny to watch.

Man I loved them right through And Justice For All.  The Black Album to my mind was right where they went to crap.  It was amazing to me how much they changed from one album to the next.  Master of Puppets is still one of my all time favorite metal albums, The Thing That Should Not Be is just fantastic.  I'll have to pass on anything new yet again, everything I've heard of theirs for years has just been steadily worse. I think I'll go listen to some of their old stuff now.

Exactly.

Well they are in their late 40's still rocking.  You obviously aren't going to get the same ferocity out of a band in their early 20's, I take their new music for what it is worth.  I thought St Anger sucked, but I thought death magnetic was real good.  I'd much rather have burnt out rock from one of my fav bands of all time still producing music with quality, than these poser emo rock bands that fill the radio air waves nowadays.

Music i really like from a musician and producer stand point. Well written, nice polyrythms, great vocal range engineered and produced very well. IF you can get passed the way its compressed to crap for youtube.

This next song was also well written. Nice use of midi samples and a powerful driving bass line. Very simple but beautiful song. Im a big fan of his music.
