Hey Sunbat -how's things?

I don't hate America (I assume you mean the USA), nothing could be further from the truth - this game has put me in touch with some of the coolest, funniest and most polite people I've ever "virtually" met - that's the people. The country - how can you hate a country? Relative to the game we all play the sacrifice made ensured the freedoms we enjoy.

I think the point was that paying out on the French isn't that cool. I made the point about the cannon (French design) and expressed a desire for more Free French skins on a cartoon plane. Not a mention of USA.

Hate America? Are you serious? I was wishing people Happy Thanksgiving and I haven't the slightest notion what Thanksgiving is!!

Best re-read the quote - keep well too mate!

No problem at all.

As you know, you and I have mutual respect for each other. It was simply the QFT that irriated me.  I didn't think that the entire orignal post was true.  That is all.

Thanks for clearing up your stance and forgive my hotheaded response.

No it wasn’t.  See my post above.  No need to denigrate the US while loving on France.

I agree that French should be recognized but don’t let that hate of America cloud your vision.
You are certainly drawing a much different conclusion that I am from his post.  That's your prerogative but please refrain from insinuating I "hate America".

Its funny I think that everyone rants on about the French being cowards, the Brits needing saving and the US being white knights.

And not consider the several million Russians and their kill total of 85% of all German ground forces.

Not enough can be said about the brave men and women involved in the French resistance, either.

Yes not many living captives as the russians tended to shoot all germans fighting or captured.

The French resistance was a brave bunch indeed.

Back to the OP..... the Dewoitine D.520 was considered a good bird. The French pilots just did not have the experience of the germans they were fighting. Even the germans put the D.520 to use after the fall of France. Many sat on the assembly lines waiting for things like propellers. The unfinished birds were completed by the germans and put to use in the fight.

Actually, the French pilots did quite well during the Battle for France.  Out of the 351 D.520s that reached French squadrons at the time for the Battle of France, the D.250 accounted for 114 air to air kills, 39 probables while losing 54 to enemy action.

Under Vichy control, during the Syrian-Lebenon campaign, the D.250 accounted for 31 air to air kills (against British and Australian aircraft), 11 loses from enemy air to air action and 24 lost to AA, accidents and bombing attacks.

In other actions by the Vichy D.250 squadrons, one squadron (GC III/3) shot down an entire squadron flying the Fairy Albacore from HMS Fury.

Of the two Vichy D.250 squadrons that actively opposed the Allied invasion during Operation Torch, the Vichy French naval squadron Flotille 1F, saw action against US Navy planes.  The D.250 didn't fair so well, losing at least one confirmed D.250 (some reports put it as high as 6 D.250s lost to USN Wildcats) while the USN Wildcats only losses were do to ground and friendly fire while claiming a confirmed 14 kills.

(Correct me if im wrong)

The French got their reputation for running when 3 battalions (two French, one American) advanced into the Argonne Forest in early October 1918. The communications were cut between the 3 groups, and the Americans dug in, the french withdrew.

Most of you know this story as "The Lost Battalion"
IIRC one of the three battalions was british. (and i thought that Argonne offensive was alot more than 3 battalions' worth of men?)

I think Americans making jokes about the French during World War 2 is one of the more ironic things I have ever heard.

Not a single French unit broke and ran in WWII.  Not one.  That is not something that the United States can claim about its military.

The French soldiers and airmen fought very bravely, but lost due to their leaders, political and military.

Contrary to the idiotic meme you are propagating, cowardice is not the only way to lose a war.

Und they were squelched by die Wehrmacht im 6 weeks...
