There is a lot less spying going on than you think asleep1 (whats your in-game name?) What many think is spying is really just paying attention to the map and knowing the game. Goons are easily found because MOST people fly them in a strait line from their base to the target base. Fly along that line and "Tharrrr she blows!!!". The same goes for NOE attacks. Knowing the terrain makes it easy to pick which track I would take, so that is where I'd look.
Yes there is some spying going on by some people who thinks its important to win the war.... oops, sorry didn't mean you
What he said

About a week ago I was looking for something to do on the map. I had just ended a flight in a fight that turned into a rout in favor of my side (knights) And didnt feel like going back to fight over what little scraps that were going to be left.
As I looked around I noticed a large darbar several sectors to the southeast of where anything was going on. typicall Horde deciding to go after undefended bases far enough away from any other fight that few if any would normally notice before it was too late. Again. Typical of todays horde mentality.
There were two bases that could have possibly been targets. One directly south from where any other fight was going on and which tactically would have made more sense. in saving their own base we were attacking while possibly gaining one of their own. Given the location of our forces to the north. But would be more difficult to achieve. The other possibility was farther to the south and away from the knits main body of activity thus less likely to be noticed because most people only keep their dar zoomed into a few sectors square. This one would be the easier to take. but would have acheived little more then trading away one of their bases for one of ours.
There was a third possibility that I wont even bother mentioning because few "mishun" planners have shown any capability of depth of thought to even attempt such a thing. And because of this I quickly counted it out.
I upped on the runway at the harder base because that was the one that made more sense to attack. Then got to thinking. "Naaa. this would make too much sense and the other base should be too much easier to take. Having supreme confidence in human nature to choose to make the easy route over the right one. I quickly ended mission and reupped at the southern base and immediately lifted off.
No sooner had I done this then that bases darbar started flashing
Not wanting to alert the incoming AC of my presence I stayed low and off dar and quickly typed out a radio message about the impending attack.
Knowing that it might take a while for any friendlies to respond. IF any responded at all. I knew that my only chance I was going ot have if I were to have one at all of preventing a base capture before help arrived was going ot be in finding and killing the goons before the incomming enemies found me.
So I quickly opened the map again and zoomed into find out where the town was and very quickly deducted the probable line of approach.
At this point Im scanning the skies to see if I could see any AC knowing that for the base to be flashing that quickly. They wouldnt have a ton of alt.
Just as I suspected I see itty bitty dots in the air just around 7-8K. So again not wanting to be noticed I stayed as low to the ground as possible and proceeded to the most likely avenue of C-47 approach.
By then my calls were answered and another friendly had upped (I forget who) and he must have been thinking along the same lines because he was headed in the same general direction as I was on a slightly more direct route.
Soon I heard him call out that he had spotted a goon. almost immediately I spotted that one and two more which we very quickly eliminated with extreme prejudice.
Staying relatively low we both headed towards the enemy base where the attack originated from where we each killed 1-2 more goons before we ourselves were overwhelmed. But by then. Other friendlies had started to respond And after some time the attack was beaten back.
Now the point of all this is simple. To someone on the opposing force it might be easy to think that some kind of spy were involved because both myself and the other friendly managed to be exactly to where the goons were. But really all that happened was deductive reasoning was applied against a rather simplistic plan which is so typical in the game that its easy to predict with almost absolute certainty whats going to unfold, how, where and from what direction.
Not hard to defeat if someone is paying attention and not in the middle of something else when its noticed.
Funny thing is. They used enough planes to take two bases and in the end. the end result was -1 as not only didnt they manage to keep their base in the north. but they accomplished nothing in the south other then wasted effort.
End result -1
One of these days we are going to have to discuss strategy and tactics as it relates to the larger map picture in the game
